Such a cool guitar!
I think that I like Alnico IV the best. That seems to be what my favorite guitars tend to have in them. My Flying V and '69 SG have some custom wound PAFs in them with IVs, and they are quite sweet. Especially the neck pickup. And I have to say that I really prefer my pickups with Alnico2 magnets to the alnico5s in the SG Modern. I love that guitar, but it may be time to change out the pickups. It's still stock after nearly a year. Except the strings of course.

Well done brotherI'm goofing around with my '62 reissue Strat, getting familiar with it again. Next weekend it gets to fly to Germany with me for a month of work in the Alps. Can't go without a guitar for a month.
Some things that are cool about this guitar. I made this as a Partscaster with all the right parts and close manufacture dates as I could. I first tried a set of Manlius pickups in this. They didn't seem to work, so I took the Fender '54 custom shop pickups out of my mongrel '62 Strat because they didn't work in that guitar. After the swap, both guitars sounded awesome. Sometimes, you really do need the right combination of parts. One size does not fit all, and it never bolts right on.
So, over the years... I started noticing how Hendrix, Buddy Guy, and many other players in the fifties and sixties had the pickups set lower into the body. It took a few tries, as I wanted to see what my limits might be. This is what the pickup heights ended up at, and it seems the right place for letting the string ring real good and get a good deep sound. After getting a good sound out of the bridge pickup, I worked on the middle and neck pickups. It sounds really good, and even better now that I have been using the Pyramid "Hendrix" strings (.010 - .038") It's very lively, and my '62 likes the same type of setup. They've been this way quite a while now.

I generally keep mine a tad lower than most people would. I generally like to start with a very nice clean tone with the guitar's volumes set at about six. That's always my starting point because I tend to keep my guitar at about 6-8, and let the amp (and/or pedals) do their job. Then, I have the extra oompf when I want to solo or need the guitar at 10.Well done brother
I also have done this ,, lowering the pick ups,, does something good, and I like what I hear from this set up..
Cheers
Mitch

Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s Left-Hand
Pick up a Les Paul Standard to create the same tones that have defined music for over half a century. This version is a mirror image of the righty Standard.www.zzounds.com
I broke down last night. I couldn't resist the $600 off. The one I ordered is no longer shown, but it was a pound heavier than the rest and has a funkier top. It should arrive Wednesday and I will adorn it then.
That LP is absolutely beautifulView attachment 86691
It has arrived. I shall adorn it as soon as I get home from work.
Thanks Mitch. I went for the one with the least flame and more mineral deposits. It's also a pound heavier than the other three they had in stock. That LP is absolutely beautiful
