Another Gig

Nice! Looks fun. Outdoor venues are fun.

We were getting nervous, though, because storm clouds were rolling in from the west and, as you can see, we were on the water. This marina is on the Patuxent River, not far from where it feeds into the Chesapeake Bay. As it turned out, we didn’t get rain where we were.

As for playing outdoors, I’ve played outside at night and during the day. I think I prefer night. Of course, you need to set up lights, but the crowd seems more willing to participate. Has this been similar to your experience? Admittedly, mine is much more limited than yours, but this is one of my observations.

Night is way better IMO. More boozing going on. Lights, more excitement. We rarely have played day gigs. Just how it has been.
Glad you lucked out on the weather!

Yeah, I like it, too. It's a QSC and it really sounds good. I'll have to double check, but I think it can handle over 500 watts.
We got some of the Yorkville (more common in Canada, made here) Elite E10Ps for powered wedges. Small 10" low driver but crazy good monitors. 650 watt peak and seem to be very prominent in the vocal range which makes them cut through mix very well for vocals.
Super sweet little things. Those QSC look reasonable size judgjng from back. They make some excellent speakers! Does the singer use in ears? I don't see any wedges by her.

Yes, the singer and keyboard player use in-ears. I may start using them myself. In-ears are a must for her. She goes out into the crowd a lot and engages with the people while she sings, so she really needs them. There is one song where I go out into the crowd to do a guitar solo, but I position myself so I can hear myself over the FOH speakers. I use my Jackson for that song and have it hooked up to a wireless.

We were using the Samson 800 watt 2 ways...I liked them so I bought my own.
Is this the one?

I may want to get my own monitor, too (or in-ears…I can’t decide). But I want it to sound good.

Yes, we tried a lot of them in "Bad Dog" and this one proved to be super versatile. We each had our own personal monitor and each one doubled as a FoH if needed.

Looking through some old photos here. I think these are the previous monitors we were using the Mackie monitors during this performance with the singer using an oddball monitor/Bluetooth speaker.

Pretty sure these are the Mackie's we started out with...

The 1999 Marshall MG50RCD is out front serving as a keyboard amp

Here's a better shot of the Mackie's. They were decent, but the Samson's had better overall sound quality.

Mackie here again, so this would be early 2020 at an underground performance during the lockdown

The drummer preferred a 2x10 Harbinger monitor from Guitar Sinner.

The reason he preferred the Harbinger was it could just be plugged into a microphone and used as a monitor/FOH, whereas the Mackie and the Samson require a pre-amp to work like that.

Not a problem if you are just running through the board...

Correction:

After studying the photos, I discovered that I purchased the 300 watt Samson rsxm110a variant, while everyone else opted for the 800 watt, with the drummer being the exception.

I felt like 800 was overkill for a personally owned monitor. Only vocals and Drums were ever put out over the monitors. All guitars and bass were at stage volume.

My favorite Western Hat of all time.

I like QSC been using the K12.2 5 each 1000 watts RMS 2000 watts peak 42 pounds each so far no need for the sub's
and two of the CP12 QSC 500 watts RMS 6000 watts total played a few hundred gigs with them no issues
my old passive system makes my back hurt looking at it EV speakers with Crest amps.

We've got two more gigs on the books and we're trying to get a New Year's Eve gig.

We're adding several new songs as well.

I will say, I'm glad to be putting some regular use on this little beastie. It had been sitting idle for quite awhile.

The mods I made to it several years ago have actually come in pretty handy.
