Brand New Old Hohner Day:

So, this guitar has been in the case for at least 15 years with the frets pulled out. It wasn't cleaned after its final performance and it was so filthy the reside had to literally be scrubbed off....

It cleaned up pretty well...

A few passes with a 12" radius block and #320/#400/#600 to be sure the board is flat.

Pecking away a little during my lunch breaks....

These tuners drop right into the headstock with zero modifications. Have no idea where I got them....

I align tuners with calipers.

Really? Crazy Glue? I thought that was a fret no-no???
Well, crazy glue really doesn't hold forever...
the older it gets the weaker it becomes. But I suppose crazy glue can be mixed with baking soda to make it stronger.

People epoxy the frets and heat the fret to release the epoxy...so I'm told.

But what it comes down to is the fret slot is too big for the fret tang.
I mean the slot can be filled and re-sawn, or a fret with a bigger tang, either way.
But the frets and the slots width should be pretty closely matched to start with...
