A few years ago I found a custom pickup winder that made a set for my VMNT that were absolutely killer. I'm not very fond of mainstream equipment so I've always looked for different ways of doing things. I've never really liked the big brand pickups that I've tried from SD, Dimarzio, and EMG so I was super stoked that these custom winds were so d'mn good.
I ended up buying another set for my Schecter that were more vintage style, a take on a set of PAF's but much hotter. Again, perfect in every regard.
So at the end of March I reached out once again to get a set built for my new Solar. The guy has some new styles coming out and he was working up two new signature pups for some quasi-YT-celebrity types. Since I knew he was super busy with all the new gear, I told the guy I wasn't in a huge rush and tried to play the nice guy.
A few weeks later I reached out to him and asked how things were going. I got a reply that he was super swamped because of the new releases and he had a ton of orders and was working non-stop. I did the nice guy thing again and let him know, "no rush, make sure you're taking time out to enjoy life. Just let me know when you think you can get my set done." I got no reply.
So yesterday I sent a follow up email once again, three weeks after my previous email. He replied that he was still not done and was busy with taking an Electrician test. I know most of these guys work FT and do these things on the side, but I thought he was working on these other new releases and then getting to my set soon after and it sounded like he wasn't working on any of them. I kind of felt like he was taking advantage of the situation and my patience.
Now I write this down, I'm on the fence on how I feel about this whole deal, but I finally received a reply this morning that he's going to get to mine this week. I told him that I was going to be out of town for an event on the 3rd of June and I wanted to get them installed before I left. My event has nothing to do with guitars but I omitted that detail.
I have one more guitar I'd like a new Pup from this guy, but it will be a while before I pull that trigger and I'm going to approach it with a little less patience.
