Picked these up today. Haven't worn cowboy boots in years. I really dug these Tony Lama's and they were on clearance. Part of their 1911, kinda historic "special" collection too. Maybe I wear them, maybe I don't. Nice sexy eye candy at least from my perspective anyway.

Almost a couple hundred bucks is a major good deal on "Lama's".

I bought these Lucchese‘s almost 30 years ago at some mega boot store outside of Dallas. Most comfortable boots I’ve ever owned. I think they are kangaroo leather.

Those are sharp. I always wanted a pair of Tony Llamas, but I have an insanely high arch, and can not get my foot into them. I could wear Fryes, and had several pairs for the longest time. When they were still based in Marlborough, MA, I would go to the factory store to buy them. Had to try on several before I could find the ones that fit right.
Found a nice shoe store in Dover, NH today and bought a nice pair of Chippewa work boots. Red Wing has been disappointing me lately.

Top-notch stuff there, You can't get a new set of theirs for under $400. Mostly $700 ...$800+. I have a set up on eBay used right now in python. Kangaroo would be seriously comfortable leather it seems. I think they make USA only.

I've had a couple sets of Lama's. Very comfortable, like a slipper. Like most with the leather sole they wear out real quick on concrete. Now I buy a grip type pad to cover the sole-front bottom for protection and durability. I remember in '98 walking 'til no end in Toronto in Lama's. About the worse one can do to leather bottom boots.

I never had RedWing boots. For some time people really raved about the high quality of them. Hard to know where you're really getting stuff these days though.

Red Wing USED to be a great boot. Good American made, high quality workboot that could take an absolute pummeling.

But the last pair I had of them that was worth two s was about 12 years ago at least. They were fantastic and I actually still have them put away as an emergency pair, because they look new after putting them thru hell. But I bought 2 pairs after and they were absolute garbage: soles gave out, the GoreTex began to disintegrate and get wet and the arch support was terrible.

These days its harder to find the American made ones, though they're still there but cost way more and aren't holding up. The foreign made ones aren't even worth mentioning. Ive been jumping around looking for a good pair but its hit and miss.

Wolverine had one particular model that was tough as hell and felt great but its been out of production for 3 years, so whats left now is crap. I got a pair of Carolina that Ive had for about a year, not bad but not perfect either. Ive heard alot of great things about Danner but they are a lil pricey.

You know, i dont think Ive had a pair of cowboy boots since I was 3? Lol nothing against them but I cant pull em off...not literally, but fashionably lol

My first pair of White's lasted 9 years before they needed a rebuild. Nick, from Nick's boots, used to work at White's, his boots are every bit as tough or even tougher than White's. Wesco is pretty legendary but I've never had a pair.

Handmade in Spokane, Wa. in White's or Nick's case, Wesco is handmade in Oregon. USA!

When people talk about tough USA made workbooks, I am consistently surprised and disappointed that none of these companies ever make the list. I don't think they're really all that well known, but I do know that these boots eat stuff like RedWings for breakfast, and poop out stuff like Danners.

Expensive for footwear? Yeah, kinda. But imagine not having to buy a new pair for almost a decade!

I absolutely loved the Durashocks. Those were the best boots i ever wore but unfortunately I cant find them anymore. I put them through utter hell and could get about 2+ years a piece out of each pair, being in mud-hole ditches and walking across sharp metals

Never heard of these but i was just looking the site for Whites. They seem like a top level made boot and I wouldnt care to shell out $300-400 if they got some mileage on them. My only issue is the safety toe models they have are mostly black and 10" ankle support. Black isnt a deal breaker but i usually wear a 6" ankle.

We technically arent allowed to wear Steel Toe due to electric shock hazard, but have to have a protected toe so its usually Composite/Safety Toe.

White's will build you whatever you want, as will Nick's, I'm not sure about Wesco. But, the custom builds tend to be a bit more expensive than the standard builds. Some people have a real need for a totally custom build, having different sized feet or whatever the case may be. I don't have a need for anything too crazy, most of the standard stuff would serve me just fine.
I also think it's pretty cool that they're entirely rebuildable, because after some time, these things just form to your feet, like an old glove. The break in period on new ones can be pretty rough for a couple weeks though, but IME pretty worth it. But if the insole is in good shape and all you need is some new uppers and a resole, it's like putting on your trusty comfy old boots, but newer, and without the painful break in period.

I hate steel toes. Hate em.

I think Nick's might have some other color options, and they offer other stuff like rough-side out leather too.

I hate steel toes myself: uncomfortable as hell and when its cold it freezes your toes to death, plus in the event of an actual smashing, it'll amputate your toes if something heavy enough hits you. They tested this on Mythbusters and couldnt prove it yet ive personally had heavy steel hit them and it bent the toe inward, nearly pinning your foot

But they make us wear some kind of safety toe and since they are conductive; we usually wear composite plastic. Its not too bad, little stiff for a while but relaxes once its broken in. Not nearly as cold and if something heavy hits you, it just cracks the polymer but not your toes lol
