Anyone here play a Gretsch?

Here is mine. I know I'll catch hell for making it a half Gibson, but it sounds so much better now. The stock pickups did nothing for me. It now has a 1985 Gibson Dirty Fingers in the bridge, a Seymour Duncan 59 in the neck, full 500K pots, Switch Craft 3 way switch, and a PureTone jack (those are the tits). The finish from the factory on these guitars is really superb, but the electronics are beyond cheap.

The Bitch was finding the switch hole blank metal plug that looked like what Malcom used, and the almost non-existent pickup trim rings that fit a 5222.
Very nice. I noticed that touch right away.
Yeah. Although I'm still just starting to learn more details about Gretsch, that setup seems to be a real Gretsch distinguishing feature.
I agree that the master volume idea is nice. Being able to set your pickup balance with their individual volume controls, yet still control the overall volume is pretty neat. When I was getting my feet wet with a Gretsch in the music store, I very quickly came to see the value in that. I could see a Gretsch becoming my main guitar due the convenience of that one feature alone.
I would love to get one of the Gretsch guitars in the local music store, but all they have are models with the Spindle Post bracing. I definitely want a model with the Trestle bracing.

Nope. No hate from me! Making a guitar your own can be very rewarding.

Interesting. But, I'm more interested in single-cut models with a Bigsby, and I'm pretty settled on models with the trestle bracing. This one uses the center block, which is more like a semi-hollow guitar. I certainly like semi-hollow guitars! But, it's not what I'm looking for in a Gretsch.
My "must-haves" point me, at least, to something in the Electromatic line, sort of like this:

Yeah. I agree.
All Gretsch guitars should have a roller bridge.
