Its not like I change tubes very often but I just so happen to need 2 friggin EL34s and 4 measly Ecc83s for one amp I have. Browsing online? Ha, gone baby gone. Some sorry ass independent 3rd party and individual sellers wanting $110 for a pair of basic JJ EL34s : a tube that 6 months ago was about $54 for a pair. Seriously? And then now Psvane has popped up, an off-shot of Shuguang built more for HiFi applications but usable in guitar amps but at $110 for their basic entry level tubes.
This is ridiculous, I'm sorry. Too may jackasses ran out and bought up all known stocks from any of the usual dealers and panic buy #121 has set in. Same dumbasses who probably dont play their amps a collective 10hrs in a year suddenly need ALL the tubes on planet Earth.
The amp will sit and collect dust before I shell out anything close to that. That's why I have backups. Should I have had backup tubes? Yeah probably but I also dont swap tubes every year let alone every few months. Also, I'm not gonna pay $200-500 for a pair of some elusive piece of glass made from a defunct company in 1960 something. Why? You wanna do that be my guest, but if an amp costs $900 im not shelling half of it's cost for a part designed to be replaced. That's like buying a car and spending $200-500 on a 40-50 year old oil filter every time you service your engine
Its stupid as hell you cant even get a single set to carry on. Bout like that stupid Floyd Rose Speedloader bridge that required special strings no one has produced in 4-5 years and thus is self- obsolete. You have a 50-65lb paper weight now with an amp if you run out of tubes because everyone building amplifiers cant build a single friggin tube OR you let them drag you over the coals for insane markups.
Whatever
