Radio AtÖlia:

Ambassador of Tone
Fallen Star

Here's one of our latest tracks for you guys to check out. I wrote this at the lunch table at fender on one of my 15 minute breaks, about two weeks ago. The song was born when our drummer gave me the lyric idea when he said "we are all livin on borrowed time" during a conversation. He also suggested several phrases that appear in the song.

Equipment used:

Steinberg UR22C USB Interface

Mac Pro running Cubase 9.5

Roland TD50K2 Drum Kit

2021 Gibson Les Paul 50's Standard Gold Top (bridge pickup Burstbucker 3 tones/volumes full-up)

Blackstar ID-Core 100 Guitar Amp Direct Out (clean setting with room reverb only)

Ibanez (Import) GSR-190 bass with .105" Ernie Balls

Fender Rumble 40 Bass Amp Direct-Out

The vocals were recorded in a single take on a pair of Peavey PVM-328 Drum Microphones arranged in a 'V' pattern and connected to a Steinberg UR22C USB Interface and dedicated left and right respectively. Thsi is what gives the vocals a left/right stereo feel.

From inception, we hoped to keep this song very much a live recording. It has an unusual and constantly varying time signature and we made no effort to try and "tame it" or otherwise polish it with multiple re-takes and/or studio tricks. It's as close to a one-take live recording as we could muster up.

The guitars and vocals were recorded simultaneously. A second guitar track was recorded after the original and both appear panned left and right. The solo was composed and recorded in a single take after the fact and it as played on the neck pickup (BB1) of my 2021 Gibson Gold Top with volumes and tones rolled off to fatten the tone.

The Blackstar settings for the solo were 'Crunch' channel, gain at noon and all EQ's at 3pm.

Have a listen and post your thoughts...

So, the trend now with Radio AtÖlia is that I am writing a couple of songs a week at Fender. We are not going to try and release them all on the debut CD, but will put out 5 or 6 songs to kick things off.

Hard to find a cover that fits in the catalouge with our original material. Thus far, 'Beat To Death Like A Dog' by RhinoBucket is the only cover we've 'auditioned' that really "fits" with my vocals and blends in with the theme of the CD in general.

Slow songs are nice, they give the brain time to think between the notes rather than being pulled by a bullet train at 200 bpm. Nice work !

So, we notified BMI that our tentative release date for the EP is May 1st, 2022, so we got a few hoops to jump through now.

All the copyright documents have been filed, the BMI registration is complete and licensing to record and distribute Rhinobucket's 'Beat To Death Like A Dog' has been secured through the Harry Fox Agency.

We've got 3 songs finished/recorded and 3 to complete/record, plus we need to produce a video or two.

Busy!!!

Robert, what does the agent do for this? Gig setup? Promotions? ??

At present, the drummer is doing all the website work and making contact with Radio stations, etc.

I do all the copyright paperwork and BMI registration for airtime royalties.

Because there are just two of us, we don't have any hard, fast plans to gig at the moment, but that could change!!!

The spirit of this song took me back to the later days of the Bon Scott era... Great work, Rob! Can't wait to hear the finished oeuvre! (y)(y)

That sounds pretty exciting, Robert.

Is the paperwork a real pain?
