Ladies & Gentlemen, Let Me Introduce You To DeadPedal:

So, someone suggested we cover Beat To Death Like A Dog by Rhinobucket, from their 1982 album 'Get Used To It.'

I felt like the song sounded enough like our original material to "fit" into the catalog and I think there's enough "real estate" for me to weave my vocals into it and make it our own.

So our producer won't accept a commercial recording of a song for consideration, for example, sending him a YouTube link. He insists we actually play the song and submit it to him as a demo.

This morning, I got up about 3am and listened to the Rhinobucket song a few times, then switched on my DAW and recorded the left channel rhythm track just from memory to a foot stomp.

I then recorded the right channel rhythm tracks the same way.

I improvised a solo in one take, and then doubled it, panning it left and right at 30%.

So, while I do not read music, one of my great strengths is being able to listen to a song or other musical work and memorize the arrangement. This has kept me steadily employed and given me an edge in working with much better guitar players.

Equipment used was my Slash/AFD Les Paul from @eSGEe with a Planet Tone Afterburner in the bridge into my Blackstar ID-Core 100watt then Direct-Out into the DAW.

Only onboard reverb was used on the amp.

Sunday, we will add drums, bass and vocals to this and submit to our producer to see if the song makes the cut....

'DeadPedal' is a new collaboration between myself and a session drummer colleague/friend (Robert P) whom I work with frequently on a variety of studio projects. A few days ago, we discussed doing a metal Christmas song and we considered many possibilities.

This is our first public collaboration - a Christmas version of 'Deck The Halls' sung to our rendition of Black Sabbath's 'War Pigs'

Due to a previous engagement, RobertP was unavailable to perform the drum tracks. Another session drummer colleague (Ffej Rednil) stepped in and hammered out the drum tracks for this project in a single take.

I played the bass tracks - following the original arrangement as much as possible - on my $60.00 Ibanez import, direct out into a V Amp Pro Rack Mount. I played the bass lines with a stack of Fender Heavy's super-glued together for more attack and to add an aire of urgency to the bass lines.

These tracks were taken home on my thumb drive and uploaded into Audacity.

I then tracked the rhythm and lead guitars on my 2021 Gibson Les Paul 50's Standard direct-out into my Blackstar ID-Core 100 watt with only the onboard FX. I tried to remain faithful to the original arrangement to some degree, but it's definitely got some unique twists that make it uniquely mine.

I used overdrive, reverb and chorus on the guitar signal.

Last night, I drove out to RobertP's wine cellar and we recorded the vocals in a single take with a kick drum mic. (We also rec After that, we went to a local Italian ristorante and ate a couple of huge calzones.... :)

Here's the advance copy with the dry vocals on only the right channel. We still have some mastering to do but our plan is to release it before Christmas Eve.

(P.S. I also recorded a a cover version of 'War Pigs' last night too that's in the works)

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!!!!

Oh hell yeah!

Good work, Robert. Rock-on beyond anything that is conceivably rock-on'able.

:dood:

I had heard most of what you have been posting here just haven’t commented till now, I love your recording’s with the Marshall more than the the other amp, and the Ivanberg origin is my favorite of them.

Thanks
