So....Watcha Been Eyeballin'?

Where is this idea coming from that LTD is made from plywood?

I‘ve never read this from any source. I have read that some very inexpensive LTD models, such as the LTD 10 series, use basswood, whereas other LTD models will use mahogany. LTD may also use less expensive woods for the fretboard, too. ESP will generally use ebony.

But, I’ve never heard of the plywood thing. I’ve even tried looking it up and can’t find anything to confirm the idea.

Incidentally, here’s a link to the same LTD bass my son has. His is exactly as described here - spalted maple top on an ash body.

Have no idea.
Maybe too much ganja last night for some people? :D :p

On my son’s behalf, I’ll say, “Thankyou!”

If you double-check that link, you’ll see that the neck bolts on with SIX screws! It has a nice satiny finish and a nice comfortable neck. It almost makes me want to play bass!
certainly appears very nice........as stated........Ive never owned an ESP product.......but it might be time to DIP A TOE !

Sorry mate. Wasn't sure. There needs to be a sarcasm emoji.
I shoulda known....
Speaking of LPs you sure have an excellent selection!!

Yea, I need to get better with that I guess. I'm so damn sarcastic that I always seem to think I establish myself that way quickly.

I know you well from other places too.

I'd never rip you or that gorgeous axe. If it was ply I'd tell ya what gorgeous ply it was actually.

That Axe is a winner winner chicken dinner all day long and on through the night, man. :yesway:

Thanks ...on my 'Pauls too Jethro!

Hmmmm....

Day in and day out, guitars are crossing my bench...both USA and Import Models. I can honestly say the only guitars that I liked the appearance of recently was a black Jackson Kelly with gold hardware and a red camo Jackson Soloist.

Despite a generous employee incentive, I haven't seen anything I'd really want to have.

My 2021 Gibson Les Paul 50's Standard (built July 17, 2021 according to @Don O) really has kind of ruined other guitars for me.

And I really don't "love" Les Paul's, but a "good" performance guitar really grows on me.

The fit and finish is so impeccable (on my Gibson) that I can immediately find issues with even the higher end imports right up to the USA models.

The Gibson stays in perfect tune no matter what I do and I now have 84 days on the original strings.

So, TBTH, I just can't seem to find this level of quality in other guitars from other makers...not even PRS. In fact, I've probably seen more corners cut on USA made PRS's than any other guitar line, which is kinda disappointing, but when human hands are involved, variations will be present.

Sure, I could trick-out a "decent guitar" with hand finished fret ends, leveling and crowning, but to be able to open a box and just have all that done for you right from the factory - on this level - I'm just not seeing it on other maker's instruments...and it would really be foolish to expect that level of detail in a lower priced instrument.

I do understand that I'm a super-small contingent of guitar buyers where every small detail has to be near perfect and I am not swayed by fads and the purchases of my uber-wealthy colleagues.

Now, my scrutiny is really extreme. If a fret doesn't feel slick as the string slides across it, that's a deal breaker for me. Fret profile is everything and I can even feel the flat/low spots from hammer blows.

I don't want to see finish anomalies where the binding meets the neck/body or in even obscure areas of the instrument where it doesn't affect playing.

First fret action height must be .022" to .025" and maintain fretboard radius. Lower than this spec makes it hard to "grab" strings at the first fret, which is needed if you play the intro to "Already Gone" and "Interstate Love Song."

I would say that the only guitar I have seen recently that is on-par with my Les Paul is the USA Yngwie Stratocaster, which, quite honestly makes sense. It's a USA model with a premium pricetag to match.

I wouldn't consider buying a non-USA made anything at this point. Period.

Fender USA makes an excellent quality product. It's the real deal and a lot of the equipment is left over from the old factory, so there's some real history there.

FWIW.

Dude, ESPs are ridiculously nice. The step up from LTD to ESP is like Epi to Gibson. They're easily on par with Gibson IMO.
Does it have stainless steel frets?
That's going to be a big plus if it does.
I'm not sure what model that actually is. Looks sort of like EC-1000 but I can't really tell.

Preach on, I hate super low action more than super high action in most cases, especially on shorter scale guitars.

I'm with you guys. The last two guitars I bought (2020 Les Paul '50s Standard and 2022 Les Paul Classic) both came from the factory with ridiculously low action.
Neither of them were fretting out or buzzing, and I almost get the impression Gibson is doing the setups this way just to show off, but the first thing I had to do to both was raise the action significantly.

Also, to the OP, I don't have my eye on any gear at all right now. Overall I am pretty content and enjoying the tones I am making with the gear I have.
I did come very close to buying a watch on Sunday, but that's a totally different hobby, so...

Mine was right on the published Gibson service specs.

.022" first fret unfretted, .070" unfretted at the 12th.

Dude, you know me. I have never measured anything on my guitars, I just go with what feels and sounds right to me at any given moment. Sometimes I even mess around with bridge height while I'm in the middle of playing (I figure, why'd they give the bridge thumbscrews if you aren't supposed to reach down and screw 'em?).

But even if they did come set up to factory specs, I'd argue the spec is too low for best feel and tone. Which is why my showing off comment - just to prove they can crank 'em out with stupid low action. Of course, I am usually wrong about most things, so nobody should listen to me,

I can dig that, although I'm quite the opposite. I love specs and once I set it, I forget it. I never mess with any of the adjustments.

Too low???

Are you less than .070" at the 12th fret???

Ive seen some cool SPENDY watches people brought in on Antiques Roadshow.

I typically buy new from the boutique, hang on for a while, and sell for a profit. The only watch I have kept long-term is one my wife gave me for our 20th Anniversary, which for obvious reasons I can't move on. Honestly, the only reason I talked myself out of it was we had just walked out of brunch and I had a couple of drinks under my belt and I didn't want to impulse-buy something that expensive under those circumstances.

Still thinking about calling the dealer up and having her put it aside for me though.
