Whomever that writer is - regardless of what their personal beliefs may or may not be - is incredibly closed-minded and unwilling to see for him or herself just exactly what "metal" is. They may not be totally wrong, but they are willfully ignoring that there is a plethora of "METAL" bands that are actively preaching AGAINST the very subject matter that the writer has obvious complaints about. Also, ignoring the blatant anti-....umm..."belief system"- message of another plethora of artists who choose to use a less aggressive style of music to preach their own messages, whatever they may be. This writer clearly has an agenda to push. Or maybe some kind of personal vendetta. Perhaps this person's metalhead dad didn't give them enough hugs when they were a kid.
Long story short, I don't know who wrote the article that you read, but I have to think that this person might just have written the most ignorant thing I've read all year so far.
No offense to you, Norm...I realize you just wanted to have a conversation here, you didn't author that did you?

Maybe it's because we only got an excerpt from the article, but I just couldn't help but hear my long-gone-now grandparents filling me in about how rock and roll is music of the devil, yadda yadda...they meant well, but they too were ignorant about modern music....and they were both musicians lol
Just couldn't help but catch those same kind of vibes from the paragraph you posted.
If it doesn't break any forum rules, I might like to see the source and read it in it's entirety. It is possible that I missed something that may change my mind a bit regarding my attitude towards the author.

I did find the source for this, the author is careful to say in the beginning that there's nothing inherently wrong with the music itself, and does acknowledge that it also exists in every other kind of music genre as well....so my opinion about the author has indeed changed slightly. Perhaps my initial response could have been less....scathing...
However, I now also see why you didn't post the whole thing as it is likely to break the forum rules....
...but I still think it's coming from a biased mindset, but that's neither here nor there lol
