Actually saw Petra back in the mid 70s when they were no bodies playing on flat bed trailers parked at churches.Stryper
Bride
Whitecross
White Heart
Petra
Six Feet Deep
Tourniquet
Living Sacrifice
Demon Hunter
..........
I'm sure there's more, but.....All these bands are "metal" in one form or another, and all with a more positive, albeit religious, outlook and subject matter.
Metal doesn't have to be a downer.
Yeah they weren't bad,Actually saw Petra back in the mid 70s when they were no bodies playing on flat bed trailers parked at churches.
Ummm.....Does Metal Church count ?
Know all three. Newsboys became big. You might have to have been on a deserted island to not know who they are. And Geoff Moore. I may have an album of his…. But don’t know about the Distance part. I’d have to check thru my albums to see.Yeah they weren't bad,
There were lots of those types of acts going on back when I was younger too. Remember Audio Adrenaline by chance? Not metal, but they became fairly successful, saw them in a very similar situation as you described: nobodies playing on a flatbed, or a bunch of flipped over apple bins. Same with the Newsboys, they also became kinda successful, and Geoff Moore & the Distance too.
I’ve listened to some Christian Metal bands. Instrumentally, no different than any metal band. The one difference. They tend to balance things out a bit differently so listeners can hear their message without having to Google the lyrics.Ummm.....
Count as what? Metal or church?
I've found that to be subjective to the individual band.I’ve listened to some Christian Metal bands. Instrumentally, no different than any metal band. The one difference. They tend to balance things out a bit differently so listeners can hear their message without having to Google the lyrics.
I do believe "the distance" was the name of the band, obviously fronted by Geoff Moore. I bet I've still got a couple cassettes somewhere too.Know all three. Newsboys became big. You might have to have been on a deserted island to not know who they are. And Geoff Moore. I may have an album of his…. But don’t know about the Distance part. Whomever that writer is - regardless of what their personal beliefs may or may not be - is incredibly closed-minded and unwilling to see for him or herself just exactly what "metal" is. They may not be totally wrong, but they are willfully ignoring that there is a plethora of "METAL" bands that are actively preaching AGAINST the very subject matter that the writer has obvious complaints about. Also, ignoring the blatant anti-....umm..."belief system"- message of another plethora of artists who choose to use a less aggressive style of music to preach their own messages, whatever they may be. This writer clearly has an agenda to push. Or maybe some kind of personal vendetta. Perhaps this person's metalhead dad didn't give them enough hugs when they were a kid. What do you think? The writer here i think has made some good points. I like music, that makes me feel good, I find heavy metal is not for me, but to each their own.

What do you think about heavy metal music?
In the hands of the unsaved world, heavy metal almost always embraces death and pain and suicide and drugs and anger (metal is very rarely “happy music”). Believers have to be careful not to get sucked into the culture of nihilism and antisocialism that metal usually promotes.
