What do you think? The writer here i think has made some good points. I like music, that makes me feel good, I find heavy metal is not for me, but to each their own.

People also ask
What do you think about heavy metal music?
In the hands of the unsaved world, heavy metal almost always embraces death and pain and suicide and drugs and anger (metal is very rarely “happy music”). Believers have to be careful not to get sucked into the culture of nihilism and antisocialism that metal usually promotes.

Death is part of life as much as you want to ignore it…. make music about “happiness” death is still there you just choose to ignore it.

Plenty drugs in pop/rap/ country and other styles of music.

It promotes to be self thinking and not to follow blindly….

Plenty suicide outside of rock and metal music. ( it’s unfortunate human condition)

Why dose it have to be “happy” to be a good music?????

This is what annoys me, it has to be happy and all lovey dovey :poo: to be considered good…

Metal isn’t for everyone, just stick to what you like and stop criticising something you dont like or understand.

More time I spend here I find less things I have in common with members here and I think its time to start thinking about exist strategy.

it MIGHT be able to be kept on task SMitty--- lets try--

Id have to disagree w/ the writer--thats like saying everyone that listens to country is a drunken wife beater and everyone that listens to blues is a broke sharecropper in the delta

Ive been listening to metal (and country-- and jazz and blues and classical rock-- pop-- and .....even Norwegian Free Jazz and Lawrence Welk POLKA! ) and Ive yet to commit suicide or beat my wife or buy an accordion.
Im far from anti social except I wish them damn kids would get off my lawn!!! ---

Also many people do not truly listen to the lyrics...... (in most modern metal you cant tell what cookie monster is screaming about anyway) but I digress-----here is a for instance "WAR PIGS" by Sabbath on the surface seems like a song about PROMOTING war .....death destruction etc...... however its actually a WAR PROTEST and ANTI GOVERMENT song .......

SO you see perhaps the reporter hasnt truly done his homework ..... and many "innocent" happy songs have very dark meanings

All around the mulberry bush ? -- cute childrens tale yes?
This mid-19th century rhyme is thought to be about female Victorian prisoners exercising at HMP Wakefield Prison in West Yorkshire. The women would dance with their children around a mulberry tree - which still stands today - and they are believed to have taught their kids this rhyme to keep them entertained.

RING AROUND THE ROSIE // 1881

Considering that some of today’s classic nursery rhymes are more than two centuries old, there are often several theories surrounding their origins—and not a lot of sound proof about which argument is correct. But of all the alleged nursery rhyme backstories, “Ring Around the Rosie” is probably the most infamous. Though its lyrics and even its title have gone through some changes over the years, the most popular contention is that the sing-songy verse refers to the 1665 Great Plague of London.“The rosie” is the rash that covered the afflicted, the smell from which they attempted to cover up with “a pocket full of posies.” The plague killed nearly 15 percent of the country’s population, which makes the final verse—“Ashes! Ashes! We all fall down”—rather self-explanatory

Just for some "lighthearted examples"

there are LOADS of HAPPY uplifting FUN metal songs ---
this promotes living after midnight -- rockin till dawn and LOVIN till the morning comes...... how is any of that bad?

its even catchy and has a nice beat you can dance too ....

One of the nicest things about music is that it has helped people feel less alone when they hear their feelings and experiences encompassed in a song. If this premise is taken as valid, music should speak to all topics, including the trauma, rejection, alienation, sorrow, and anger. The message it sends as to how to respond to those things must be evaluated on a song by song basis, and the conclusion reached after that evaluation will most certainly vary.

I once heard Sting say that he wished the world would stop fighting so the artists could go back to writing about love. That is an acknowledgement of the ideal and the reality of the human condition.

I can see where people who don't listen to can come to the conclusion that it would turn out extremely ill adjusted people , but if the writer had taken the time and spoken with a group of people and maybe interviewed a few artists i'd be willing to bet he would find the opposite to be true. New Study Finds Metalheads Are Some of Music's Most Positive Fans - The Pit
I've been quite a few metal concerts they have all been a positive experience this is also coming from a guy who wore a Pantera shirt to a Fleetwood Mac concert surrounded by people in 3 piece suits sipping chardonnay I was a total fish out of water but it was a kick ass show none the less , point is we can all get along , and we all find the "happiness" in whatever music we enjoy .

Probably one of the most MISUNDERSTOOD -- and it has SUCIDE in the name ----

my "take away" from these lyrics ... is .... ALCOHOL IS BAD !!!!! and its slow suicide ......

hows that a BAD message..... is a harsh reality --- its a struggle for many -- and its a song stating how hard and harsh it can be ....... says to me DONT BE AN ALCOHOLIC ........

maybe the writer of Norms article has personal demons and issues that make HIS negativity focus on the wrong messages not the real messages????????
