Reaper or Audacity?

I found a reasonably priced bundle at Sweetwater (PreSonus Interface, Audio-Technica microphone and cable). Looks easy enough to set up and use. I just didn't want to dump a ton of money into this in case I get depressed from hearing my own recordings. :rolf:

The bundles work just fine, my buddy just bought one for like $150? You definitely gotta have some form an interface to use a Digital Audio Workstation, so you'd be covered here.

Im so damn primitive it would be hilarious if not so sad lol i have a brand new Dell Inspirion Laptop but that aint what im using: got it for the kids and their school.

I actually use my wife's old beat up HP laptop thats at LEAST 10 years old now, with Reaper and as far as interface? Ha, its actually my Line 6 POD X3 Live, set up in microphone mode with a Requisite Y7 Analog preamp modeler setting ( going for old vintage tape sound) via a cheap Pyle PDMIC78 that's a Shure SM57 knockoff.

Classy huh? Lol but, necessity is the mother of invention and I make it work against all odds i guess

This one?

I have a few Audio-Technica mic’s…good stuff usually. Looks like fun. You will need some form of audio monitoring….headphones at least….a set of monitor speakers is anther can of worms, but you can get to that …maybe @eSGEe will chime in with his recent acquisition…

I have some Presonus gear and I like it, quality stuff. I can't comment on the Audio-Technica. I haven't owned any of their stuff since the stereo equipment of the 80's.

I’ve got to say, that’s gonna teach you a lot in the long run…sometimes being resourceful leads to creative solutions, which can lead to something very cool….

Yep, that's the one. I like that the USB provides power, but does it also transfer the signal to the laptop?

It converts analog audio to digital to be written by the laptop running a DAW program to a destination hard drive(I’d suggest an external drive for audio data destination). It also acts as an audio output for the laptop running that DAW.

I'm kinda looking forward to this. Maybe it could be the impetus to play more which leads to playing better which leads to more confidence in my playing.
Any reason to play more is a great reason lol nothing wrong with setting your own bar and goals! But always do it with having fun in mind and never as a chore or burden. That's what gets me thru anyways
