I have done this myself as a kid! Lol had one decent radio station that played rock and id have a cheap tape recorder on standby. Something like " The Weight" by The Band, "Badge" by Cream or " Dont Fear The Reaper" by BOC would make a rare appearance and CLICK! got myself a nice bootleg lolBack on the day…… we’d sit in the listening to crappy AM radio with a portable cassette player. Hear a song we liked and hit record. Hold the mic by the only speaker in the car. It was glorious.![]()
Dont sell yourself short! Hell, would like to hear the V!Yeah, a hell of a lot better than what I'll post.![]()

I would like to echo the sentiments of @Clockworkmike …Dont sell yourself short! Hell, would like to hear the V!

There was an AM station in Little Rock back in the early 70s. KAAY. After 10:00 at night they’d jack the power to like 100k watts and broadcast “underground” songs. For a couple hick kids living in rural western Illinois, it was the best ever. It was there I heard “Migration” by Uncle Ted and The Amboy dukes. Still right up there for favorite Songs.I have done this myself as a kid! Lol had one decent radio station that played rock and id have a cheap tape recorder on standby. This is first time Ive seen you posting your playingwell Ill stoke one up for Audacity -- I use it -- because -- its stupid simple ---Im stupid and I can SIMPLY record and save a tone
like this :
which took all of 5 minutes to dial in the MEsa Model on AMpero -- open Audacity -- hit record -- export-- upload and whamo ----
yes -- its crap-- but hey IT TOOK 5 min.... TOTAL ........ Imagine what someone with talent and an hour or two could accomplish...
and its FREE -- both Audacity and soundcloud ..... and both have more features and functions than I WILL EVER TAKE THE TIME TO LEARN TO USE! ....so why spend $$$

THAT is a great forgotten song! Very unlike what most folks think of when they think of The Nuge. Its probably closer to Iron Butterfly In A Godda DaVida vs something like Cat Scratch Fever lolTh

Damn, audacity has been around a while then? Kinda bad then if they havent improved much in that timeframe lolI’ll tell you this…I suggest Reaper to people often - because it can be super easy once one learns a few things about it…and I’m confident that I can offer help to new people with most early learning issues.
Audacity, I’d have to re-learn it….I’m sure I could…but I haven’t used it in 15-ish years…

They’ve improved it a lot since I last used it…I’m sure of that…just from seeing random screen grabs, reading user’s questions, and hearing resulting projects. When I used it, it was like the voice memo app on a smartphone.Damn, audacity has been around a while then? Kinda bad then if they havent improved much in that timeframe lol

Never really thought about it…. But yeah…. Can sure see the similarities now that it’s pointed out to me. I can be a slow learner at times.THAT is a great forgotten song! Speaking of which, i can now see why you might enjoy that with the Iron Butterfly comparison!![]()
Hahahahaha! I was just thinking about you guys!….you would probably benefit from using project and/or track templates…like in the Kenny Gioia videos I posted in this thread…You guys usually seem to set up for live recording of multiple sources."Hi. I'm Kenny Gioia, and welcome to another one of my tutorials. In this video, I'm gonna show you how to _________ in Reaper."
Know how many times I've heard that?
Kenny Gioia and @Thatbastarddon taught me everything I know about Reaper. Tons of tutorials on YT, and plenty of other users around to help a dude out.
For these reasons, and because it's the only DAW that I'm familiar with (aside from fruity loops during my later high school years lol) my vote goes to Reaper.
Once you get a few of the basics under your belt, it seems to be pretty straightforward and easy enough to use, for an illiterate inbred* like myself, even.
*not actually illiterate or inbred
Yes, I think I will be looking further into that. We've recently acquired a new drummer who actually fits in with what we've done so far, and he seems enthusiastic about it too. Might be a keeper. I am not looking forward to learning to mic drums lol....but I can see that I'm already being pushed into itHahahahaha! just one of my spur the moment improvisational jazz noodles with metal overtones ....That aint crap pal lol actually pretty damned good
Oooooooooooh…..that’s a can of worms….I’m gonna go out on a limb, and say everyone should have at least one “fancy box” at their disposalO.K., now on to the hardware question. I have a couple of cheapy stereo mic's, and a USB audio adapter. Will that work to record or do I need one of them thar fancy boxes I 've seen ?

now you just need the 8ft tall roll of duct tape to dispose of the dru......m.... uhm -- PM me for more detailsYes, I think I will be looking further into that. Anyway, once I figure that out, a template or two would be great.
New drummer, New drums! (Well, they're his....but possession is 9/10 of the law, right?)
