I have done this myself as a kid! Lol had one decent radio station that played rock and id have a cheap tape recorder on standby. Something like " The Weight" by The Band, "Badge" by Cream or " Dont Fear The Reaper" by BOC would make a rare appearance and CLICK! got myself a nice bootleg lolBack on the day…… we’d sit in the listening to crappy AM radio with a portable cassette player. Hear a song we liked and hit record. Hold the mic by the only speaker in the car. It was glorious.

There was an AM station in Little Rock back in the early 70s. KAAY. After 10:00 at night they’d jack the power to like 100k watts and broadcast “underground” songs. For a couple hick kids living in rural western Illinois, it was the best ever. It was there I heard “Migration” by Uncle Ted and The Amboy dukes. Still right up there for favorite Songs.

I’ll tell you this…I suggest Reaper to people often - because it can be super easy once one learns a few things about it…and I’m confident that I can offer help to new people with most early learning issues.
Audacity, I’d have to re-learn it….I’m sure I could…but I haven’t used it in 15-ish years…

THAT is a great forgotten song! Very unlike what most folks think of when they think of The Nuge. Its probably closer to Iron Butterfly In A Godda DaVida vs something like Cat Scratch Fever lol
Speaking of which, i can now see why you might enjoy that with the Iron Butterfly comparison!

They’ve improved it a lot since I last used it…I’m sure of that…just from seeing random screen grabs, reading user’s questions, and hearing resulting projects. When I used it, it was like the voice memo app on a smartphone.

Kenny Gioia and @Thatbastarddon taught me everything I know about Reaper. Tons of tutorials on YT, and plenty of other users around to help a dude out.
For these reasons, and because it's the only DAW that I'm familiar with (aside from fruity loops during my later high school years lol) my vote goes to Reaper.
Once you get a few of the basics under your belt, it seems to be pretty straightforward and easy enough to use, for an illiterate inbred* like myself, even.
*not actually illiterate or inbred

I have both Reaper and Audacity. They actually work very well together. There are things that are super simple to do in Audacity and then import into Reaper.
There is nothing at all wrong with Audacity. Just ask Robert how much he's used it. I also used it a lot when I was taking classes at Berklee School of Music.
It's solid. Reaper is also a very well thought out and easy to use DAW without the need for an engineering degree to use it.

I was just thinking about you guys!….you would probably benefit from using project and/or track templates…like in the Kenny Gioia videos I posted in this thread…You guys usually seem to set up for live recording of multiple sources."Hi. Yes, I think I will be looking further into that. We've recently acquired a new drummer who actually fits in with what we've done so far, and he seems enthusiastic about it too. Might be a keeper. I am not looking forward to learning to mic drums lol....but I can see that I'm already being pushed into it
Anyway, once I figure that out, a template or two would be great.

Oooooooooooh…..that’s a can of worms….I’m gonna go out on a limb, and say everyone should have at least one “fancy box” at their disposal
….There are lots of Focusrite Scarlett series users here…I’m not one of them…but I have read most of the manuals
