NGD: Squier Jim Root Telecaster

I think if I do want to go for a phase switch the best idea might be to wire the guitar with a 4-way switch so that 1 is bridge humbucker, 2 is bridge hum spit + neck parallel, 3 is neck only, 4 is bridge hum spit + neck series. Then have the phase option on the push-pull pot. Engaging OOP on the push-pull and slamming the switch right through to 4 would give a cool sound, whereas OOP in parallel can sometimes be too weedy with single coils. I'll have to look into that

I tend to swap the magnets so the pickups are always out of phase in the middle position. I only use the middle position on a Les Paul for cleans...
 
Okay the pickguard material is on its way and the order is in to Bare Knuckle for a Cobra single coil neck pickup of the appropriate direction wind and polarity.

Three black Gotoh knobs arrived today, made of lovely machined brass. I installed one on this Telecaster and I have a couple of spares in case I lose one, given that I have this style and colour knob on three guitars now.

Apparently all the parts I need to finish this have shipped from Australian Luthier Supplies and Bare Knuckle

I've decided to get Steve to fit the Sung-Il hardtail that came on my Schecter C-6 Pro. It is a much better bridge than the standard hardtail.
 
Guitar is currently with Steve for making a new pickguard, installing the hardtail bridge, and routing the neck pickup cavity.

I just received notice that the Bare Knuckle Cobra single coil has arrived in Melbourne and is waiting to clear customs
 
This is the same pickup combo that we are using in this Squier but the Squier is not as bright an instrument as this alder Tele.

My Cobra-S neck pickup arrived from Bare Knuckle today so I took it out to Steve, who's ready to start fitting it and cutting the hole for it in the new pickguard he has made for it. The bridge swap has already been done and the pickguard is finished besides the neck pickup hole.

Congrats, bro. I think she'd look good too with a few surform plane "accidents" and some steel wool water. Especially on some edges. :listening:
 
Here's another photo. I hope to have the wiring completed soonish. Might do it on Monday / Tuesday. The Cobra-S is labelled Reverse Wound Standard Polarity on the box; they wound it that way so that it will hum-cancel in the middle position with the slug coil of the ceramic Black Hawk.

Okay so I have had the pickguard off and removed some foam to get the neck pickup down lower. I think I will get Steve to drill two holes in the pickguard so that the pickup can have the Strat style adjustable mounting so that I can fine tune the height. I have to remove the neck each time I remove the pickguard so it is a difficult process and I can't really adjust it with the strings in place without removing the neck and strings a few times.

I tried various wiring set-ups but this is what I ended up going with:

550K BKP CTS push-pull volume pot with the push-pull switch wired as a phase switch, with a 470K resistor in parallel with the hot output on the switch that then connects with the neck pickup terminal on the 3-way Oak Grigsby selector switch. The neck pickup is wound RWSP and the bridge pickup is wired to split so that only the inner coil (closest to the neck) is active when coil split, and the coil split is automatic in the middle position.

So the switches are as follows:

Push-Pull: down is in phase, up is out of phase. This only affects position 2 on the selector switch.
1: Bridge (full)
2: Neck & inner coil of Bridge (split)
3: Neck
