I do practice this way often in the early morning just for polishing techniques....
Ironically, that's a big part of the reason I don't do it. Playing without an amp blows my technique because I lose the nuance of the amp.

yes... yes it is -- was uber impressed from the first strum (love at first feel you might say)Neat!!!!!
Ive learned 1 thing for sure and this is ACROSS THE BOARD-- and covers the full $ spectrum from low end "beginner guitars to HIGH END SPENDY "pro" stuff...........
they make good ones and they make CRAP ones --- all manufacturers are guilty-- name and country of origin mean nothing
a GOOD 95.00 Grote can be a joy to play while a BAD Gibson can piss you off to look at it
and vice versa of course
Ive also learned that when you find one that is made RIGHT --- do NOT LET IT GO! i recently stumbled across a mistake that Gibson let slip through the factory .........................
its a 2014 LPJ ..... cheap entry level satin finish Lester...............but I foogin LOVE it -- sounds great -- plays amazing -- have had it a week or so now (?) -- cant remeber just SEEMS like its always been here...... .and talk about ALIVE this thing really vibrates in your hand ...took a chance on a low ender and I have been VERY surprised! -- Assumed Id strip it and flip it -- came with a very high end Gibbo heavy HSC- - 61 Zebras--- part it out profit and move along ---
HELL NO this thing will be here a LONG time

the "mistake" was they made a low end guitar --- that plays and sounds AMAZING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if they had glossed this thing and added binding they coulda charged 3 times the amount!

I feel the same way about the Schecter Apocalypse PT I have. It's Korean made, but damn it's just fantastic.
I almost sold it and I'm glad no one bit. I would be sitting here regretting it!
I practice licks clean on amp vs. dirty to clearly hear string ringouts too.
And yeah, the better it sounds clean, the better it sounds dirty.
I found that I play far better with an amp after I've played without one for several weeks. If I can make it sound great unplugged, it always sounds better plugged in. Without fail.
That's one of the things Dweezil Zappa teaches in his Masterclass. You don't have to be plugged in to have a quality practice session.
Yep. totally different from unplugged to write, learn or practice / polish new(er) pieces. And loud.
I practice licks. Wait. What are you guys talking about?
