Most Efficient Use of Speakers:

Currently, I have a 2x12 speaker cabinet with (2) 16 ohm speakers, wired for a total load of 8 ohms. This was not ideal, but rather built from junk on hand.

For the greatest efficiency, with an amp that only requires a 4 ohm minimum total load, and assuming I'm running 12" speakers with a 98-100 Db spl, what combination and wiring would give me the greatest efficiency???

Well, two 8 ohm drivers in that same setup is going to be 4 ohm. Any load greater than that will be less efficient. Seems like a trick question on a pop quiz. It's still way too early for math buddy, plus don't we get a couple weeks off for Christmas?

I've found that Celestion type speakers sound best to me in 16 ohm flavors. If my setup prohibits the use of 16 ohm drivers, I'd go with something else.

No trick question, I'm just thinking out loud because I recall hearing that some speaker combinations sounded better when wired to make more efficient use (lower ohms) of a pair or quad of speakers...

Now, with the MG100HFX head, it has two speaker cable outputs to drive cabinets, each with a 4 ohm minimum requirement.

What I considered - if I go with the MG100HFX head, was to use a pair of 8ohm speakers, each wired for its own individual jack.

I was also looking at speakers in the 98 to 100 Db spl range for more clean headroom as to avoid any chance of speaker breakup.

Would there be any advantage to running it like this???

If 4 ohm is minimum, you would be better off runnung 2x 8 ohms is parallel in one cab at 4 ohms and simply run it that way for max power output.
