I so badly...

3 words into the singing and I knew Sapient was going to do the song justice.

@Sapient
You sound really good doing
Changes!
I believe I am a fan

Thanks guys. Being new to the singing "thing" it's great to hear encouraging things. Much appreciated!

Also, I put that up for the OP so he could at least see an absolute 0 ability "singer" can learn, at least to
a ...say ...a doable level ....for your own stuff anyway. It is learnable and is not only just a magic gift.
Although the latter sure has its perks. :)

I'd just say make sure you are not straining. If you are you are on the wrong path. Take like Dio ...what
appears to be screaming was as light as a feather on his voice and was not screaming at all. It's part of
the illusion of using proper technique.

Thanks man!

Yeah, I record myself and I hear some improvement, but damn, it's hard.

One more I did in isolation. Seems my bass player was off time, not sure what happened in editing. This is the highest I can half properly sing.
Meh, was just for fun

Nice! You're doing it, regardless, and that sounds pretty much as it should. I think anyway. Once again
I am not the official word on vocal. I'm still just the apprentice. .....or pupil. Pupil? Eww ..Pupil??

The more I watch all kinds of singers the more I categorize them as either musical singers or as showperson/ actors. Some artists manage to blend them to varying degrees... sliding scale, notable exceptions of some super-talents of course.

But if you can really get inside the song, pitch can mean a little less, but phrasing means everything.

I just try n crank out whatever I have to!

Allison Krauss was friends with my wife that's in heaven now you can't knock 34 Grammy awards

I absolutely love Allison Kraus's singing. From a bluegrass background, she is very disciplined in harmony. The two records she did with Robert Plant are brilliant, even though she claims is way out of her wheelhouse. I heard "Kid Fears" by the Indigo Girls on the radio today. Although never really a fan (but acknowledging their talent) I listened to the whole song loudly in the car. I could not believe their use of vocal harmonies, and also their brilliance on acoustic guitars. The two guitars weave a very nice tapestry of what the vocals are built on to. Now, I would like to dig into their catalogue a bit more.

I guess the think to keep in mind is that even tough guys like Neil Young and Dylan are not seen
as "great" singers, their pitch is still perfect or they wouldn't even be off the ground yet.

Here's me after about 4 months into it. It's tuned down but I'm doing in the actual key when
I get a chance. I've already started it technically and the first verse is done. I have to get back
to it. Lol.

I should also mention that my voice is not as "husky" as it sound here normally. It was kinda
beat-up when I did the recording, actually.

A good job on that tune!!!

I hear a lot of very talented singers and artists, especially down here in L.A. There are even some unknowns even better than the established artists.

I have a very tough time listening to certain singers, so it's likely just a "sonic texture" type of thing.

As far as female singers go, I like Patty Smyth, Alana Myles, Pat Benetar, Melissa Ethridge, Lita Ford, and Nelly Furtado.

Male singers, I like Merle Haggard, the guy from 5FDP, The Volbeat guy, Bruce Dickenson, Elton John, and Billy Idol.

I really don't have time to listen to music as a consumer. My days are generally filled with learning songs to either teach or perform.
