I so badly...

I never aspired to sing, but found it necessary due to unreliable, prima-dona vocalists.

I am a fairly versatile singer. It gets the job done anyways...

And Robert. Like most of us, you’re harder on yourself than you should be. None of us like to hear our own voice. You do just fine. Good range. Good tone. I know I can’t do what you do….. especially play AND sing at the same time.

Some vocalists I simply cannot listen too:

Steven Tyler
Neil Young
Aaron Neville
George Jones
Allison Krause
Geddy Lee

I've never heard a complete work by any of them because I cannot endure their vocals.

May God bless them and may they be prosperous...
From that list I have no problem with Neil or Geddy. For different reasons. Geddy can be a little like finger nails on the chalk board for sure….. but like AC/DC, I can overlook the vocals for the instruments. In spite of his less than stellar voice, I’ve been a NY devotee from just about the first time I heard him. Which by the way was Woodstock….. the 69 original version. I am old after all.

I can respect all musical opinions.

OP: I've been studying/practicing it for the last 4 months. Going through the stages, it's the weirdest ...instrument in the world. It's a little strange getting to know your voice, throat and muscles so well while taking them to so many extremes in every direction trying to learn. Lots of pain in the early stages. Even now my voice is off normal from trying something just a little different. Until your 100% "on" it seems it's leaving some punches along the way.

Good luck. I'm on the same endeavor. :yesway:

I guess the think to keep in mind is that even tough guys like Neil Young and Dylan are not seen
as "great" singers, their pitch is still perfect or they wouldn't even be off the ground yet.

Here's me after about 4 months into it. It's tuned down but I'm doing in the actual key when
I get a chance. I've already started it technically and the first verse is done. I have to get back
to it. Lol.

I should also mention that my voice is not as "husky" as it sound here normally. It was kinda
beat-up when I did the recording, actually.

Nope. Absolutely.
But a person's taste is their taste. I cannot STAND Axl n Guns. Hate it. They are rich as it gets but that doesn't mean squat to me if I do not like the voice.
Absolutely not, just please don't force me to listen to her.

Awards don't pull much weight with me. Pay me. That's what excites me...

Agreed, if you don't like it you don't like it. And for me, the money means nothing. Just enjoy playing. You are in a different boat.
The awards mean nothing to me either. I have to like the voice regardless. Axl is also an poop chute so zero respect for him amd his cronies.

Great job! Actually singing instead of shouting in key like me!

Thanks "The Jethro Rocker"!

You sounded good too, bro. You're doing the "shout" that we all really wanna do. It's the voice of rock.
I still consider you a natural since I (for some reason) believe you have always just been on pitch like that.
That's ...pretty cool.

3 words into the singing and I knew Sapient was going to do the song justice.
