Recording and production.

Right…you had the bass at a certain level, but the guitars were competing for some of the bass guitar fundamental frequencies. You diminished some of that competition allowing the bass to be heard more…separating it from the guitars further. Now the bass could come down to the level you originally perceived that it needed to be when you started/pre-eq play. In the process, you also created more distinction between the two guitars with the high-mid push on the wah/lead.
I’ve not used the monitors that you have, but they may not produce as much on the low bass frequency spectrum, so you may need to monitor mixes through other systems to avoid too much bass pile up.
Yeah, the monitors that came with the interface suck ass, and one of them has a loose connection that always acts up, so we don't even use them anymore.
We've got playback routed through the PA monitors, the same ones we use to play drum tracks on when we jam, and vocals when I get drunk enough lol. I don't think they're meant for mixing. The mix sounds pretty good through them at the moment though, but like I mentioned earlier, when I get in my truck it's very bassy. Played on my bluetooth Bose it sounds ok, on my TV it sounds alright, on the headphone monitors everything sucks equally....But yeah we try all kinds of different systems and usually they all react a bit differently to any given recording. I'll reduce bass tracks a little bit at a time and we'll see how it goes!
Thanks dudes!

Don't, ummmm....don't worry about the mess. We sure as hell don't!

Nice to see some Kokanee there. You must have access to it as an import. You aren't far from where it is made.
LOL
I'm pretty sure LRT wants it too

Okay, both tracks with wah have been boosted 3dB at the 2kHz band:

That sounds awesome to me! Catchy riffs. Balls out, man!!

I tend to ise the Zoom L20 recorder to do any recording ideas that I do. Can mix on there or transfer tracks and mix on computer. Sure convenient to mix on the unit.

You can pick up 2nd hand monitor speakers relatively cheap.
Yeah, but I could probably just fix the loose connection in the bad one that's sitting here too lol
Problem is that they ARE just cheap monitors, never did sound particularly good with anything.
I should probably just invest in some good quality monitors at some point if I'm going to continue down this hole.
But for now, these old PA speakers are getting me in the ballpark. The other thing is, I'm not entirely sure I've the ears for it. I'm first and foremost a guitar player, but 'production' is a whole separate art form, one that I'm pretty new at. Maybe it's an acquired, or learned skill? Maybe the PA speakers are fine, but I'm not hearing the stuff I should be listening for because I don't know how yet? I dunno. But I'm having some fun with it regardless lol

Hell yeah man! Kokanee has been our beer of choice around here for several years!
It's getting kinda hard to find recently though, for whatever reason.
I tend to prefer Canadian whisky as well, if I'm going to drink hard stuff.

We've got this old dusty thing laying around. We've never used it. Perhaps we should clean it up and try it!

You said your speakers sucked thats why I said that.

I am no Bob Rock or Andy Sneap but if you do it enough you’ll know what you want to hear and how to get there.

I suspect that's exactly it.
I haven't been doing this for long, so I'm still learning.

I didn't know how to get a good tone from a guitar and amp when I was beginning either lol
I think with practice and time, I'll gain a better grasp on it.

LRT fixed the desktop monitors, they're actually not too bad! I remember them sounding like crap for some reason.
They're a pair of PreSonus Eris E3.5s. Looks like they got okay reviews..

Anyway...

Here it is again.

Dropped the bass guitar -5.53 dB
Also brought my guitar (wah) track levels back down .46 dB
Put a low pass filter on the drums that cuts around 18.0k
Also panned all tracks 50% each way.

Is this an improvement at all?
