The thing you cant do without.

Loaded question to me, since I hate to part with any instrument lol but if i absolutely had to give up every one i owned except just one? Id keep this.

It is a rare model anyways ( the '03 Gibson X-plorer Pro) but even rarer in Trans Black ( only ever saw 2 other ones in my lifetime, mostly Trans Amber), so its cool to bond with something unique and not commonly seen. But on top of literally being able play anything I want, its always been incredibly easy and reliable and that's the most important factor to me

The binding adds to the look. Does the binding go on the headstock and neck or just the body. I can’t tell from the pic.

… and since you have a rifle on the wall, you can post as many as you want.

Hard to tell from the light in this pic, but mine has definitely edged over into "Snotburst" territory.

I've read that many people think its the silver automotive paint they used that causes the clearcoat on these to yellow so dramatically but of course I honestly don't know other than they do seem to yellow faster than other colors from the same time period. I personally like a good greened-out silverburst.
you have a nice Gibson copy of my Epiphone ;)

Ok. Here is a fun fact from someone who works with coatings and colors all day.
coatings do yellow with time, but the main reason why silver would go green is due to pigment in the paint burning out from a combination of aggressive coating diving into the paint and light.

OK, that is interesting. Let me ask you this: the silver doesn't change, it stays bright and shiny under the clearcoat (you can even see this in the photos Rob posted above around the edges of the wear). Only the clear lacquer yellows, and on these guitars it yellows faster and more deeply than the other colors these were offered in. Any insight as to why that might be?

Good thing guitars aren’t like women; you can have more than one of them. If this place was burning down (let’s not go there), these are the first 2 I would grab on the way out.

Bought new in 1977 it was my first real guitar. A Takamine F360s. It turned 44 this year and still has that great wood smell.

And my first real electric I bought as a college graduation preset to myself, a 1981 LPC.

Thank you! Yeah the binding is on the body and neck. Due to its hockey stick headstock and small area, i suppose they decided to not bind it. But for all intents and purposes, its sort of a Custom variant of the Explorer as it has an Ebony fretboard, block inlay and body/neck binding much like an LP or SG Custom or even an ES355
