So, who will get the last post before the big move?

So mind you I started this process about 12 hours ago when we rented the server. I was hoping to have the new site up by this morning, however the past several hours have been deleting old backups. Complete backups from different dates. I did get a couple hours sleep and will surly nap sometime today, however I can already see this is gonna be a whole weekend project.

So for those of you bean counters and stat chasers, here is what I started with prior to cleaning house.

[~/public_html/internal_data]# du -chsx *
8.0K addon_batch
48G attachments
100M code_cache
176K file_check
1.7G image_cache
4.0K install-lock.php
8.0K page_cache
360K sitemaps
8.0K temp
50G total

This says that our web site is using 50 Gigs of space. 48 Gigs are attachments.

It is indeed RAID-10, please see my previous post. Is there more powerful server space available? Yes .
2 core cpu on the server, 4 core on my desktop.
4GB RAM on server, 32GB on my desktop.
75GB storage on server, 6TB storage on my desktop.

However the server just pulls files for the most part, no complicated processes to perform. As far as storage capacity, we will need to throttle back on hosting big files like videos. Y'all will be able to host your videos on YouTube and hot link them here, but we can't be a forum and a video host expecting to do both well. I'm gonna try to make this forum work well and leave it to YouTube to do the video hosting well.
How about audio files? Are we still able to upload them? Which format is preferred?

Right now I'm deleting back up copies that were on the server from the crash. Tons of attachments and been deleting all night long. My FTP screen looks like this:

Must be truly exciting...

I love the idea of Soundcloud, but I maxed out three accounts years ago, so I only put my final mixes up there anymore. It's a max of 3 hours storage per account, unless you pay for Pro, vs unlimited at YouTube. I would guess I have several hundred hours of recordings stored on YouTube now and more everyday.

I don't use Soundcloud to store my music, just to link it to forums when it's expedient...

Great question! I have put the brakes on uploading anything other than a picture. No videos, no audios. I need to clear out clutter and see if we really need to use twice the storage limit of what we have rented.
Grant, can you allow .jpeg extension pics? That’s the default format the iPad uses for screen shots. I do those a lot and I see you have excluded that extension this morning.
