Finally something happening with a band

After a few false starts and a half dozen practices with another guitar player I may finally have a band. A drummer friend I’ve jammed with in the past has a singer and bass player who want to start 70s, 80s band. They all played together several years ago and are looking for guitars. He is a really good drummer who already has a very good blues band. I’m a little intimidated but going to give it a shot. Here is a set list from when they were a band. Rob and I are going to work on the #1 list and get together with them and see how it goes.

Good for you man, Im happy for you.

Thought I’d update this thread. Things have changed yet again. I’m now playing bass with two acoustic guitars. We have almost a dozen songs down with several more almost down. We have a drummer coming to our practice tomorrow night. I’m finding it hard to hold down the rhythm with two guitars. They keep speeding up the tempo when they play lead. I’m hoping the drummer will solve that. We are starting to come together as a band. It feels very good to play with others and lock in on a song after a year and a half off. We have a friends and family night lined up for early December to get some feedback. Depending on the feedback we’ll be looking for gigs in the new year.

Excellent news! And run the acoustics through an amp and get even more feedback...:D:rolleyes:

Sounds great, Kerry!

The drummer is pretty decent. He likes the songs we are doing and came prepared to play them. Can’t ask for more than that. Looks like we have a drummer. It was just a trio tonight. One of the guitars players wasn’t feeling good. We are all double vaxxed but we all thought it best he stayed away until he feels better or gets tested. Next practice is Monday.

Well our band has a name, The Bent Squirrels. I didn't pick it LOL. We had our first live performance last night. It was a sort of friends and family gathering at one of the guitar player/singers's house, about a dozen people in the audience. It was a test to play under a bit of pressure. It must have been OK. People were very surprised we've only had six practices with the full crew. They said it sounded like we'd been playing together for a long time. Thank you to Steve our drummer. Things improved dramatically when he joined. I'm not on Instagram but apparently it was broadcast live and had a lot of good comments on there. I'll see if I can get some video to post. We played our set and they wanted an encore. That was frightening as we really didn't have any more songs ready. We jammed on "Season of the Witch" for a while then played another song we've been working on "Bobcaygeon" by the Tragically Hip. That turned out to be our best song of the night so it ended well. We decided to keep at it. We are going to work on enough songs for two 45 minutes sets, get a few videos to show, and start looking for gigs. I'm really getting into playing bass. Soon I may even consider myself a bass player.

This is a great report!!!

Can you explain this one?

Congrats on your band's promising debut...
We were looking for a name. Every time we came up with something we agreed on it was already taken. This was a suggestion from a web site to generate band names. When we were setting up one of the guitar players had a squirrel stuffy toy attached to his mic stand and the name stuck.

I've used the same name since one of my first bands - from 1983 - it just keeps getting reused with the next latest band project.
