Open the Door will ya!?

Ahhhhhhh, I see... so we're basically talking about pop music. I totally understand. I love a lot of music, but I hate almost as much of the lyrics. Vocals can make or break a great song: Great vocals and/or lyrics rarely make a crap song better, but conversely even just mediocre musings can totally ruin an otherwise great song. That's why I stick to instrumentals. I don't think music warrants vocals by default unless all you're trying to do is get plays.

This reminds me of my best bud growing up. He thought that, literally, any lyrics about love which rhyme were good and Odin forbid a song without vocals.
I like when lyrics make me think and/or feel something. Hotel California is a great example of thought provocative lyrics. Then there are single lines that just make the entire lyrical content. Like "I'm in love for the first time, ans this time I know it's for real". Or "...the sun is the same in a relative way, but I'm older...". Or this one, it's just great: "Playing solitaire til dawn, with a deck of 51".

Compared to "
I said, Lord, take me downtown
I'm just lookin' for some tush"

Look what you did! You got me started on lyrics!
