I'm going to give it a try. I should get my first paycheck Friday and I set up a Chime account a couple of days ago. I should get my debit card before the end of the month. Anyone doing it? Am I asking for trouble?

Don't use Capitol One. It sucks supremely.
You are better off joining your local credit union.
Credit unions are not profit oriented. They are community service oriented and the fees are lower the service is quite a bit better than a normal bank.
I would avoid Bank of America and Wells Fargo. They also suck.

The local credit union is my back up if this blows.

If you have a local CU than don't even bother with internet banking.
The credit union will do all kinds of things to make your life happier.
Your checks will clear faster, they have a more user friendly loan policy....and on and on.
Oh, I thought maybe they would hang out with me and be my friends...

Credit unions are good and slightly less greedy than the big banks, and most of them offer you the option to do all your banking online, even though they have brick-and-mortar branches.

I have been with my bank (a physical one) for almost 15 years and pretty much the only times I have set foot on a branch in the last 7-8 years is to use the ATM to get fee-free cash. Never had a problem. Everything else I do from a computer.

However, I cannot (nor will I) vouch for "virtual" banks like tangerine, voya and such. Never really felt like dealing with them.

I do as much as I can online. I still have to write the occasional check but I've saved tons of money not buying stamps. I have all my deposits (social security, both pension checks, tax refunds) automatically deposited. I do not, however, allow automated payments to touch my checking accounts. That's a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

I have been using a credit union for twenty years. I will never use any for profit bank ever again.

My credit union is real easy to work with. Any issues, go to the local branch. If they're close, give them a call.

I don't trust the idea of internet banks. They seem even more shady than the usual demons such as Bank of America and the lot.

For banking yes. With our local state bank. Paychecks auto deposited. I can take a photo of a check given to me and deposit it without leaving my sofa. Almost never walk into the bank any more. Stop to use the ATM. No fees that way. Most of our recurring payments are set up to auto-pay.

We use the CU that the wife worked at for 12 years. Have for decades. All done online. It isn't even in the same city! No issues whatsoever.
We can call them to set up whatever we want if it can't be done online. But I do understand there can be differences in countries plus certain Credit Unions. Just our experience.

We pay bills, get e transfers, pay credit card statements, etc all online. Everything. But at least there is still a bricks n mortar place with people to help if one needs more.
Maybe I stated the question incorrectly. I have been paying bills, direct deposit, etc. online for years. Talking about a "virtual" bank here. I don't need a brick and mortar bank. Just a debit card.

Yes. I have used internet banking exclusively for the past... I can't even remember... Must be at least 15 years.

I have never had, nor plan to, ever have a credit card...

I also don't trust banks.

For the majority of my lifetime, I have operated on a 'cash only' basis.

I will admit, this has turned out to work very much against me in some certain circumstances...

At the same time, as :poo:ty as things are, I'm definitely not also inundated with debt as well....nor wealth lol

Dollar bills will soon be used as kindling to light the the fires that we heat our homes with anyway....

Fuckitt.
