DUCK N COVER @JJUDAS!!!

If it's on the internet, it has to be true.......

Has a hurricane ever hit Illinois?

"Becoming prepared for severe storms is very important if you live in Illinois. ... Side note: Many people wonder if hurricanes happen in Chicago or anywhere else in Illinois. Neither tropical storms nor hurricanes happen full force in Chicago, but Illinois has experienced the remnants of hurricanes on multiple occasions."

Yep. Generally it’ll be a Gulf hurricane than follows the Mississippi River into Illinois. Not usually much wind, but many times we’ll get toad stranglers for rain fall.

What we’ll get is something called a derecho. Which is straight line wind at about a Cat 1 hurricane force. Years ago we had one of those move over my part of Illinois. 80-100 mph wind for about 20 minutes. Lots of tree damage, but not much to homes. All I could think of at the time was…. That was only 20 minutes. I do not want to experience one of those that can last hours into more than a day. Can’t even begin to imagine what a Cat 3 or 4 must be like.
