Oh, I'm gonna get that hand!
Waaaay too much. Sadly got in the habit many years ago before I knew what I was doing. Now it is hard to break. I should work on it.
It depends. Usually, I'm looking at t he drummer and bass player. I'm usually more worried about what they are doing. Sometimes I look at my hands.
Same here. I primarily play the open chords up by the nut. I rarely have to look at my fretting hand for that…… but….. take the opening several measures of Sweet Child of Mine. That one starts at the 12th fret. Notes aren’t really that difficult. If I go really really really slow AND watch my left hand, I can play them. For some reason, my right hand doesn’t seem to have an issue picking the correct strings at the correct time. Now…. If I could just get it up tempo. Will do.
If I am playing open chords at the nut I dont need to look to change between them, but often do out of habit.
Mostly I look at the side dots to where I am going next when moving between chords / moving around the neck.
When playing lead lines I look at my fretting hand / fingers.
I really dont look at right hand at all except in admonishment of his sloppy work.

Sucks when priorities interfere with our “research.”I hope to have a bit more "research time" available this weekend.
Got some brake parts delivered and a Jeep that needs them though.

If we are playing live, it's a different situation. I tend to watch our crowd and engage with them more. But, in the studio, I'm so striving for perfection that I watch my fretboard a lot...

Nothing like a little (or xtra large) motivation. When the producer says, "Hey, Rob ..I'll buy you Chipotle if you can rip this solo in one take..."

I can admit to going through a bit of a rap phase myself too. It's not all garbage.I let classified information out, when I was starting out on guitar I had friend who played bass ( his not my friend anymore) he loved rap and he convinced me to record song. The song he wanted to do was rap..... He said you rap in Georgian I'll do in Algerian so we recorded it likely that song got lost so I don't have to hear ever again lol
Brace for incoming piss-take!!!!![]()
