Crooks in Nice Neighborhoods:

I keep telling my wife...nice neighborhoods is where the good $hit is at. No reason to rob a house in a bad neighborhood.

You showed great restraint too, he may have had a couple extra holes had my wife or I encountered him...

Don't know why this popped into my head, but thought I would share it...we live in a very nice area. Well, last weekend, the neighbor calls us about 2m to say there was a man in our backyard and when they challenged him, he told them he "lives here" and then raised his shirt to show the handle of something. I pulled my police issued (given to me upon retirement) Mossberg M500 and loaded up two #00 buckshot and that followed by 2 low recoil 1 ounce slugs. I chambered the rounds silently (I guess training kicks in) and I lit him up with a flashlight from about 15-20 feet away and commanded him to show his hands. He complied immediately, dropping what we later found was a baggie of Methamphetamine. The dude was cool at gunpoint, so it was clear he had been at the end of a weapon numerous times. I had him walk out backwards to the sound of my voice and I warned him simply (instinctively in English and Spanish) that any aggressive movement will be met with deadly force.

Once out in the driveway, I sent him packing with a warning never to return. The cops showed up a couple of minutes later, photographed and retrieved the bag of dope and took him into custody on an outstanding warrant for home invasion robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, sexual assault and attempted murder. About 20 minutes later, I was out in the back yard and found the .38 caliber Taurus pistol he had dropped. Cops came back and retrieved the gun. Turns out it was stolen...imagine that.

Just the crazy type of drifters you find even in nice areas...

I hate tweakers! Fine job Robert. You do live in a nice area. I'm pretty liberal but I don't like crime. Many people might have just shot the guy. The guy does not have money for a place to stay but is holding on to a bag of meth, pretty groovy.
