NOCD... New Open Covers Day

Well... I got tired of the gappy look of the open coil humbuckers on my '02 Special Faded. With shipping: $28 from Philadelphia Luthiers'. The covers are a tight fit around the baseplate with tape, around the pickups. They're actually a perfect fit. At first there wasn't any WOW factor, but it's growing on me. From a short distance the pups don't stand out like normal open coiled pups. You just see screws and slugs. Cleaner... :yesway:

I also wanted to tilt the pups more parallel to the strings, but the physics of the footprint of the bridge pup wouldn't allow it unless I did some fancy beveling of the pup opening on the pickguard. The neck pup would have been no problem to tilt.

Lovely guitar. Not sure about the covers, yet, maybe a slow grower? I mean, they're not bad, but not spectacular and not that visible - maybe that's the point. Hmmm, why not...

Yes yes... what's not visible are the gaps that are between the curves of the pups bobbins and the squared off edges of the pickguards pup openings. Also, because of the color of the guitar, sometimes I can see that color coming from the pup routing areas. Then there's the uncovered bridge pup that sticks out like a hemorrhoid on steroids. The open cover cleans that up nicely.
