Low budget build

I love those headstock designs. Allows the strings to move linearly across the nut. Good call.
Thank you, Dan! I arrived at the decision to use the pegbox design for that reason, and because it allows me to have unity in the entire neck-no glued joints. Hopefully this will give the bass a full, clear voice. Stay tuned!

No pics this week. I think I may have made a mess of things. While freehand routing the front pickup cavity, I took too deep a cut and the router jumped, causing a fair amount of chaos. Repairs are underway, but I’m nearly sick to my stomach from the damage. If success doesn’t elude me, there will probably be pics next Sunday.

Next up is some judicious Dremel work fine shaping the pickup cavities and fitting the pickups. Once that’s done, it’s on to fitting and slotting the nut. Then… order bridge, tuners, lnobs and control pots, tone cap, etc, and on to the staining and final finish. I really need to refine this whole mess down to a cut and dried process. It’s been more like a series of drive by shootings than a proper project.

No pics this week. Got some small things accomplished. Tuner holes are drilled, pickup cavities are done, holes for pickguard and control plate are drilled. Next up: final sanding and prep for stain. Still haven’t decided which stain to use. Midnight blue, red mahogany, mahogany gel stain, or dark walnut. Opinions?
