This is a story of my HardWire (DigiTech) RV-7 and my recently acquired Boss RV-6. So about 7 years ago, I got the used HardWire after I installed a solid state effects loop on my old JCM800 combo. I wanted the amp to have Reverb capabilities thru an effects loop. Both are very simpatico and I became very happy with the amp mod and the excellent sounding reverbs of the RV-7.

But a couple of weeks ago, the selector function for the 7 reverb modes began malfunctioning. Instead of 7 modes, it will now only provide 6... the "Spring" mode was gone. Are you kidding me? Got to have the Spring! If I had a choice, I easily would sacrifice the Reverse mode since I could never figure out a good use for it. Anyways, there is so much crap inside this pedal, and I'm not going to be able to fix it, so I contacted DigiTech and they directed me to look up an authorized service center. Crunched the numbers in my head, and it would have been $90 plus shipping... for a pedal that cost me about $100. New ones, which are now called the DigiTech Polara, are $150.
I went shopping for another used reverb pedal. Ended up purchasing a used Boss RV-6 for $110, that is in excellent condition and also gets great reviews like the HardWire pedal did... and deservingly so.

Right after I committed to purchasing the Boss RV-6 thru a classified at The Gear Page, I found a slightly obscured post about someone who had received and repaired two HardWire RV-7s from a friend that had the same problem with the reverb selection process. The repair involved replacing only the selector pot... I can do this! I never thought it would have been this simple. Contacted DigiTech parts at 801-566-8800 and ordered two of the special pots. Part number: 40-0085. $1.12 each plus $5 for shipping... total $7.24

So now, I have two very excellent reverb pedals with some interesting differences between them.

And they lived happily ever after...
