Celebrating Father's Day

My dad once picked up a young man by the throat and held him up in the air against the wall with one hand after he disrespected my sister.
The fool pissed his pants. At prime my fathers hands were massive meathooks and he was extremely strong.

But he remains patient, gentle, and I personally have never seen him lose his temper.

Tell me a short bit about your dad.

My dad is the same, as am I....he won't stand up to me now, but I clearly remember being tossed across the room after I was caught bullying my younger brother once, I also remember my pops blowing my brother down after he witnessed little bro take the (rare) first swing lol

Far from abusive, but about as fair as you could be. He only ever lost his :poo: when warranted.

I got my ass kicked a lot, but I earned every single one of them.....lol!

My brother and I.....we were NOT easy kids to raise at all haha

Thanks dad, you have been the best example of what it means to be a man that I've ever seen. I appreciate your patience, work, and everything else that came with the job. We're totally different people now, but we were always also the same.

Here's to Dad!

(He recently told me he wants to be a part of the BBQ team I'm looking to put together! He also told me that he'd only do it if I'M head cook.....not sure how to feel about that quite yet... dad's the guy who taught me everything I know...)

well, I never knew my father, he left us when I was around 3 or 4, my mum was still pregnant with my brother when he took off, he never was part of our life. I bumped into him a couple of times in town when I was living in Georgia. He used to drive trolleybuses, and that's where I have seen him... We didn't say much, other than telling me not to smoke when he saw me smoking.... he never made any effort to have a relationship with me or my brother all these years...I came this far without him I can manage from now on too.

I am a father myself now and I give my best to my boy so when he grows up he can say he had a cool dad when I'm no longer around...

here's to all you fathers out there and your fathers... :beers:

My mother gave my father the boot shortly before I was born. He had very little to do with me while I was growing up, but we mended fences about 10 years before he died.

On the other side of the coin, my son and I have always been very close. he is now grown, and is serving in the Air Force. He is on the other end of the country, and this will be the first fathers day (in his lifetime) that we will not be together. I am very proud of him :D , but I really miss him :(.

I had three older brothers who died in infancy. I was the miracle baby they were not supposed to have. Mom (80) and Pop (83) are still doing well and still living on The Ranch.

Pop served as a Ranger in Korea. He has always been fair and treated all people kindly.

Mom got me started in music and Pop got me started in his hot rod shop. I really couldn't have asked for better parents.

Here's wishing all of you the very best on this Father's Day...

wish you and your parents all the best.

My dad is a character to say the least.

Dad's always been a comical person even if he didnt intend on it but also a no nonsense person when it comes to respect and discipline ( from the old school).

He has never shied away from telling every exploit of his life, as long as I can remember and was always really open about things. From being a bit a problem child in his teens and facing the option of jail or service ( he enlisted and served time in the USMC, being honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal), to meeting my mom and marrying her only 3 months later, raising her daughter and son as his own ( my older brother and sister) when their dad abandoned them at extremely young ages. They refer to him as dad and never anything less to this day, because he IS.

He worked his ass off, often having to stay out of state and coming home on weekends just to make ends meet. I honestly didnt get to see him steadily until i was at least 7 and missed out on a lot of things with him. But as im older, i understand what and why he did it, holding no grudges but rather respect.

He is the guy who shaped everything i do today from teaching me a trade ( electrician) instilling a hard work ethic and guidelines on doing whatever it takes, no matter the struggle to provide for my family like he did. But he also is the person who kinda forced a guitar into my hands on my 12th birthday and said " Here, learn it" lol so i gotta thank him for that too.

So yeah, i love the crazy old $!#×er lol

My dad was a drill sergeant & served in Vietnam. My dad was a drill sergeant in our home. I loved spending time with him in the garage. I'm thankful that he pushed me & never cut me any slack against my brothers. If he had something to say, it was said. He has been loyal to my mom & adores her. He busted his butt for us. He never spent time away from us. If he went on a fishing trip, we went too. He's suffering from MS and can no longer walk. He was always the strongest guy I knew. Its hard to see him like this. Mind you, in the mobility scooter basket is a fanny pack with a loaded gun. I still wouldn't mess with him. My pops is the best!

I love my dad. He's 93, still active and in good health.
Still drives golfs, shops, etc...
He was born on an 80 acre dairy farm in central Wisconsin. His father lost the farm during the great depression and moved the family to Chicago.
Dad got into the printing trade working part time at a printing company & going to highschool.
A trade & company he remained with for many years until he decided he wanted to leave the Chicago area, and go back to Wisconsin in the early 70's and we did.
So we bought a "supper club", fancy schmancy name for restaurant / bar. It seemed logical, as we knew absolutely nothing about running one.o_O
After a few years of running it, he had enough...
He got his printing job back and mom & I joined him as soon as I finished my senior year in school, 1977.
And he remained in the printing field till his retirement in the mid 80's after my mom passed.
He remarried and they moved around quite a bit for the next 20 years, California, Arkansas, and eventually back to Illinois.
Then wife #2 passed...
He had enough of winters in Illinois by then, & moved down here to Florida about 6 years ago.
He hooked up with a broad about 15 years younger than him, that we affectionately call his hump, so hopefully this one will last.

This pic is a few years old, I'll get a new one tomorrow.

I talk to him daily and make it a point to visit once a week for lunch & beers.
The hump is out of town this weekend, so we're going over there for a nice dinner tomorrow afternoon.
