Distortion Recommendations

Hey everybody, hope all is well.

I have quite a few O.D.'s and distortion boxes. Along with my amps natural drive thought I had it all covered.

Of course, GAS has struck and I would like some suggestions.

Looking for a distortion with high headroom on the input side. In other words a box I can slam with higher output pickup with out clipping the input stage.

Yes, at first it looks like a contradiction, but some of these newer boxes run on 18v etc... Hopefully I've explained it good enough to make some recommendations for me.

Thanks
Steve

I love the Dark Matter, it's great on a clean amp but I have never tried high output pickups on it.

That pedal just doesn't get the credit it deserves.
Absolutely! Tc Electronics build incredible pedals in general that sadly get overlooked by people. I had their Mimiq multitracking pedal ordered a few months ago but Musicians Friend screwed me and canceled it after about 24 days of waiting. Would've loved to have gotten it and it was incredibly cheap. Can still get it but only now it costs a lot more

The Mimiq Mini is really cool and ive considered getting it, as its more available it seems. The one i was after was the stereo output version that has a 3 way switch where it replicates one, two or three guitars. It looked and sounded phenomenal but as soon as i went to buy it, literally everyone was out of stock and when it came back it was a lot higher. If i remember right it was about $90 and now it's $183

Found a strange solution to a lot of headroom issues. The cheapy KLON KL, have a rediculous amount of headroom built in them..can be used before a pedal or after with adding pretty precise control. It even made it on the bass rig now. Maybe put 2nd one on. use 1 for upping headroom & then one set dif for super clean but just louber. have THe MO & cheapy. they do fix s many issues &are killer at bringing out more of the amps natural distortion but its not a high gain..its a bring mre of type cause the saturation seems to make it thin with too much gain going on & bye bye in the mix. They play so well with other pedals

Looking for a distortion with high headroom ...
It's a contradiction.
If it had high headroom, there would be no distortion.

But what you can do is look for cleaner sound when the guitar volume is low.
And good over-diving when the guitar volume is high.
To me, that's a big factor: how well the sound cleans up when the guitar volume is low.

If it doesn't clean up, it doesn't appeal to me.
But that's the problem with many modern amps is they don't clean up so well...

If you've got the scratch I'd second the Revv pedals. I want a G3 badly - that's what my GAS keeps telling me but I know I wouldn't use it enough so I haven't sprung for it yet.

Although I've been digging the high gain on the H&K a lot, I'm really drawn towards the heavy crunch on the clean channel more. That's where this amp really shines IMO.

That being said, I do have a surprise in store for both myself and everyone here (minus one person) in the next couple of weeks that has a good potential for changing my mind in that dept.
I wonder who that minus one person is….

I have the Friedman BE-OD Deluxe, and that is a great pedal.

Just was looking for something "else" as well.

To be clear, I'm trying to stay away from clipping the input. Obviously, the remaining gain stages will clip. I just wanted to not "overwhelm" the input. I think having more headroom there, will allow the other stages to get what they "got" Lol.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

@Yargnad I'm most definitely looking at the Fulldrive, and am thinking about getting that one regardless.

Keep "em coming people.
