Bandsaw Fence v Guard question

RVA

Mates,

The fence on my bandsaw, like most, has 2 settings - high or low. As you know, when the fence is high and you are making a thinner cut, the guard must be above the fence. But the higher the guard, the more flex in the blade and the less safe (for a variety of reasons). So, when dealing with a piece that falls in the mid range of the fence height, do you opt for more fence support and set the fence high, or a lower guard and set the fence low?

Thanks for any guidance.

Beat me to it.

The Bandsaw Book by Mark Duginske is invaluable for jig building etc..

It's considered to be the modern operators manual for getting the most out of your saw. Cannot recommend enough.
Thank you both. I did try a featherboard and it was helpful. I am just getting me legs (and FINGERS). I will check out the book and the link too. Much appreciated~!
