Knife, that is...

1084 High Carbon Steel, cut, ground, heat treated and polished by me.

Still needs a lot more polishing or I might just hit it with a scotch brite belt and make it a matte finish?

Scales are Mulberry and will look much nicer when done and oiled.

Thanks!

It started out like this...

View attachment 67213

Then I cut it to shape, did preliminary grinds and then the fun part...heat treat!

After that the real labor starts, all the finer grinding, sanding, polishing and the handle...

Those guys who get a knife done on Forged in Fire in 5 or 6 hours are amazing!
Fantastic Chris!
Not to be a pain.....but.....boots!!! And safety glasses/shield!!! At least when quenching! I like you...and the cool stuff you do.... ;)
I do like the apron and gloves:)(y)

I have a really cool, tip up, shield....its perfect for that type of thing. Not too cumbersome, but there when it’s needed. I use it for grinding, and quenching...etc... @SG John is correct....you can’t go back and fix eye damage...I’ve seen some eye damage over the years....no fun.

edit: I don’t mean to be “no fun”...because the stuff you’re doing is sooooooo cool!

I have two pairs of quality safety glasses and another set of goggles that go over my regular glasses. I just saw no need for them when
going through the heat treating process, but you're both right, the flames could have got me...

When I grind I always wear glasses and a respirator. Be it steel, wood or some laminate there are many carcinogens involved in this hobby!

I'll remember the glasses next time I quench a blade!

Seriously though, this is cool work. I love knives probably even more than I do guns, and maybe even guitar picks, on an off day lol

I once used to be quite serious about throwing knives, hatchets, and axes though. Have not done anything like that in probably 15 years or so now. I would get back into it easily if I still had a good set of throwers, but they're all long gone now lol
