This time its my clone build of a JCM800 2204 (50 watt) with 6550 power tubes, that I first completed 10 years ago. My goal was to get rid of the old brown chickenhead knobs and replace them with the "flat iron" style that you might see on the Budda Amps. A new chassis faceplate to cover up a hole left after I decided to remove a previous mod. Adjust some ground wiring locations and overall wiring/cable cleanup. Minor amp voicing adjustments. And new pair of 6550's.

Y'all going to have to take my word for it (or not), but this amp sounds killer. Especially with the right speakers. For me that would be the Celestion G12-65's, or proper clones of this style of speaker. The Celestion G12-65 was supplied in the original JCM800 2x12 combos of the early 80s (also, USA only: 6550 power tubes). And a G12-65 clone that I can trust Is my Scumback M75-LD's... love these speakers... so much sweetness... I think I want to marry them...

I didnt even know Izod made amps! --- damn nation ....
Funny! I've had that silly alligator car emblem on that amp since I first put that amp together 10 years ago. I knew that I have seen that specific design somewhere but not sure where. I thought it was a mascot for of them colleges! Now that you have enlighten me with "Izod" the alligator, I properly put it out to pasture.

In all fairness, i think its more of a LaCoste emblem lol

What are the tonal differences between 6CA7, 6550 and EL34's????

What are the tonal differences between 6CA7, 6550 and EL34's????
Ive heard the 6CA7 would be best described as the American answer to the British EL34 and tone wise, is more akin to a 6L6 in that its pronounced more in the low end, chopping out some of the mids and giving a glassier sound overall. Some describe it as "darker" sounding than the EL34. The 6550 would be like a 6L6 on steroids: big bottom, crunchy highs but cleaned up mids.
