So, I share a band room with a punk band.....ok, technically I glom on to my share of the room, but anyway...

A couple weeks ago I show up, and I see the guys LP, and it's destroyed!!:( I asked my band mate what happened, but he didn't know.

I asked again at our last practice, but still no answer.
I got a call the other day, my buddy told me the story.

The other guitarist borrowed it for a show. Apparently, he tripped on the cord during a lead, and fell flat on top of it. And, the guy is tipping 300.
Wow!!!

I hope I didn't insult anyone when I laughed out loud....I also hope they aren't on this site. But, the facts are the facts, and the names were omitted to protect the innocent.....and not so innocent.

I call them a punk band, although they aren't pure punk....but they act like it. Look at the duct tape holding the strap on. They do this to all their stringed instruments. Makes me cringe, but I love to see it.

I offered him $50-$100 for the guitar. Not sure it's worth it, but they never accepted the offer anyway, and it sits in the room...along with ALL the other casualties.

It's always exciting down at the room.....and then we jam!

Your offer is definitely worth it - that can be fixed, no problem. I've seen much worse glued back together and function perfectly.

As for the "punk" approach, I've seen it many times. Lots of people view their instruments as simply tools, not fetish objects, so they don't get too distraught when there is damage. No big deal to them.

That's good to know. The fret board isn't cracked, as far as I can see. Just bent, or bending.

My initial offer was kind of timid....I wasn't sure it was worth it, but I also didn't want to insult the guy after losing his guitar. I think enough time has gone buy to make a more serious attempt.

I know these guys....that guitar will sit there...then fall....then get piled on with other carcasses. Surely, he would rather have a few bucks. So, I assume.

gball, I really, really, like the color of your Les Paul. :D

Thanks man. It was very intense when I first got it:

But the color has mellowed a lot since then:

that damage is repairable. Les Pauls and SGs break at the headstock
commonly. Every luthier I've spoken with says that repairing Gibson
headstock breaks is how they pay for their kids College tuition.
Or for their motorcycles or what.

Anyway it's routine work. If they guy took your hundred, you should take
it to the best luthier you can find. The one that all the local pros take their
guitars to. Pay him to repair the neck, and rock.

What NOT to do is fool with the break, like trying to fit it together idly.
Don't touch it or let anyone else do it. It will be harder to fix if they do.
And don't let it sit around and get dirt in it. If no one takes your offer,
just step away from it, and give it up. If it doesn't get repaired right away

I've heard a story of one of the Buzzcock's guitarist destroying a rare 1959 Les Paul on stage back in the day. Now that's one BIG OUCH!

I was just going to click like on your post, but I was worried that I would be encouraging such behavior
