IT seems VERY NICE...... but come on you can get a metric crap load of GIBSON SG's under 900 used..... really nice ones
or a NEW Gibson sg for just a few dollars more

I personally dont get it either. But there are a lot of the more "budget friendly brands" of larger companies that are heading into the near or sometimes over $900 range and Epiphone has become one of them. LTD is another good example, as is PRS SE series. Pretty much Squier is the only one keeping south of that price point.

:iagree: Not that I have anything against Epiphone guitars. I have a G400 I bought used in 09. At the time it retailed for $299. It’s a decent guitar. It kinda became my “test mule” as ultimately I’ve swapped/modded everything on it other than the wood and the plastic. But if I’m dropping $900 on an Epi SG version….. I’m going to be looking for one that says Gibson on the headstock.

Yes sir! I got a G400 myself and its a fine guitar in its own right but like your's it was about a 1/3 of the price of this. I actually got a Gibson SG Standard a year later for only $700 and it was only a month used from when i bought it, basically brand new. Still cheaper than these prices

Exactly why I went ahead with the Gibson LP Classic. I started looking at Epi's and they are $700-$1000 now, so I started looking at MIJ brands and they are going up in price to and add in shipping and the fact Japanese/US shipping was at a halt. They even stated you could buy and they would ship when it resumed but no date of when that would happen so since I was only a couple hundo away I may as well get the guitar I want in the 1st place.

If memory serves. I got my G400 used at about a buck-99 plus shipping off eBay. Add in the mods I did, which was a combination of new and used pieces….. I still have less than 1/2 the cost of this one we’re discussing. It was a decent guitar when I bought it. Based on comments I’ve gotten from friends that have played it after my mods….. that have been playing electrics for decades….. I turned it into a pretty nice guitar.

Absolutely! When i got mine back in 96, they hadnt started using Gibson pickups and though it was based upon the 61 Reissue SG, it was very stripped in that era. I changed the cheap " Sam Sung" pickups( space between the words lol) to Gibson 498T/490R, copper shielded the cavities and changed the pots. It gave it a big boost.

I think it was $349 new and the pickups and wiring cost be about an extra $160. Still came out decently. Ive actually thought about gutting it and starting completely over as a new project. Still a fun guitar

I have NEVER owned an Epiphone, but if I had to buy one it would be this.......

those are very nice Ive had a couple WIlshires.....coronets and this -0- wish I had kept it..........

I like the new ones they are sweet.

My most recent Epi purchase (standard plain top burst on the left) ----- is very very well put together and I am DAMN Happy with it -- but it was no where near a grand!

need a new pic only thing I did do was change to speed knobs ;)

I've had quite a few Epi G400s and none of them have stayed. What has stayed is my '04 Epi SG Special. It has been nodded over and over again. It doesn't have the neck issues as the G400s. If I was going to spend $900 I would definitely get a Gibson.

YEP-- I was debating between one of these and the Heritage Cherry Lester.....

Im waatching them and watching the used market ..............

@Yargnad has the final version now

Here ya go Weeze-- 100.00 off

Original version with OBL pickups

The price of wood is going up so is copper
Something i found out a long time ago in my line of work is both Copper Wiring and PVC run parallel to the costs of refined petroleum and thats because both use the same initial processes to make polyethylene/thermal plastic nylon. Usually with copper, a lot of the time the conductor of the wiring isn't what's as inflated, but rather the insulation itself. Of course right now, its both the insulation from problems domestically and the raw metals from foreign tariffs thats killing the markets
