Sleeves

I would like to address what I believe is a topic that has plagued us guitarists for ages, but no one has had the courage to speak of...until now. I ask, for all of us afraid to ask:

Do you ever get your strings muted by your darn shirt cuffs?! I mean, Prince did it with frilly, puffy sleeve cuffs, but he did a lot of things on a guitar that I can't.

Do you roll 'em, rubber band 'em or just cut those things off.

Oh, and no one wants to hear from you fair weather players who wear short sleeves all year round. You just wouldn't understand.

Whoa glad I didn't get left out as a guy who wears short sleeves year round cuz I just wear no sleeves like guitar Joeless in all his vids
I also like to smoke a fat cigar while I'm playing like him too.
I looked up Joeless and got nothing. Pic please.

Anyway, you Ronnie fashion show fancies have no place in this conversation. It is for us players with floppy long sleeves that roll back down as you play. Consider yourself lucky and run away!

As you can see in my avatar, I roll my sleeves to play.

Not only to avoid the cuffs getting in the way, but also because I often wear cufflinks and those would scratch the guitar and hook the strings while strumming.

" I often wear cufflinks" ... ummm, Sergio, how old are you?
I'm 66 and have lived long enough to know that blokes MUCH older than me wear cufflinks. LOL

SLEEVES????? what are those? We dont have those here in the Southern Swamps....I hear "pants legs" are popular up your way as well.....how ya'll live with all them "encumbrances" on ya all the time.........yuk

I hear ya. I'm a shorts, sandals, and tank-tip guy. Wearing pants feels like being wrapped in burlap or something - lol. But, to the topic, if I'm wearing long sleeves and playing guitar the sleeves are tight or I pull/roll them up.

P.S. - I prefer going barefoot, but can't do that all the time so. I grew up fishing, swimming, running around the country side barefoot. What can I say...

If you play loud enough, sleeves won't mute anything. :p

I tended to favor long sleeves and unbuttoned cuffs when gigging. Was the time of Grunge and Junkies chic and Brit Pop.

I one time played wearing gloves to see if anyone noticed. If anyone did, they didn't say anything. :hmmm:

I was actually surprised I could play with them on. They were knitted and very tight, with leopard fur cuffs.

Grunge - don't hear that term much anymore. Alternative, Grunge, Punk. I played the same stage with the Pink Lincolns once (doubt many heard of them though) and that was interesting. They were a punk band and didn't last long at that show. The cops kind of escorted them off the stage for doing things on stage, that well, ya...

I mostly have short sleeves when I jam. But when I have long sleeves or a sweat shirt on, I roll up the sleeves. Not because of muting, but because I'm more comfortable that way.

I can't ever remember the sleeves muting the strings. Guess I've always had em rolled. Ill have to experiment.

Need to ask Yngwie how he does it. I'm surprised he doesn't get caught in the strings, never mind muting them.

Long sleeves with cuffs,
Rolled up 2 turns to mid forearm.

Long sleeve t shirts,
left in place at wrist.
They don't interfere.

Short sleeves.
I seldom wear them.
Never when I'm playing out.

Most of the time I wear a t-shirt so sleeves are no issue for me...but other things can get in the way if you know what I mean.;)

^^^ A picture of an arm that will look like it is badly bruised and very dirty in 40 years.

Maybe, by then the "I just stuck my whole arm in a dirty oil drum" look will be all the rage!

I have never understood the whole tattoo thing.
But then again, the piercing thing befuddles me too.
To each his own.

Im not big on the ink, especially on chicks, but to each his own expression of art.

i wear unbuttoned long sleeved flannels over a tee shirt often. couple of folds back on the picking arm keeps things right
long sleeved sweatshirts or hoodies i push the sleeve back to the elbow by habit. It falls back down unnoticed sometimes but has never been an issue.
Cuff links, man that sounds so mature and sophisticated and... stuff, and like a Sharp Dressed Man!

gotta watch out those loose sleeves dont catch your bridge during The Who covers!!
