I might be doing it wrong...

A task I've been putting off for a long time is sharpening the kitchen knives. So I pulled out the ol' trusty, barely used, honing block and went to town on all of my knives. A while ago I tried to reteach myself how to properly sharpen knives and think I have it down. However, I use my left hand along the knife edge to put pressure down at the right time, and guide the angle. What that ended up doing is sanding the tips of my fingers off my fretting fingers.

now I gotta wait for healing. Can't play with band-aids. LOL

Are these knives of some emotional connection or inherited high quality hand me down heirlooms?

if not ..... amazon has lovely new selections .......order...and play guitar while awaiting new knives....
thats how I do it .....

but .... Im no culinary expert ...

That sucks dude, sorry to hear that lol

If the knives arent really expensive, chef grade types, you could always just use an easy quick sharpener like Smith's or Lightsmax. They'll sharpener a razors edge easily but do file your metal down a lil. Works great on basic knives you dont cherish but i wouldnt use it on a knife you really want to keep forever

Use superglue. It stings for a minute, but does the trick. Just put too much on then file it smooth. At least you could play. (y)
Yeah, I've been a victim of that trick more than a few times over the years. My issue today is that the fingertips are extremely sensitive. I picked up a mildly warm coffee cup this morning and damn near dropped it, it stung so much.

Tell me this is an old story I’ve forgotten?????
2 years ago my wife bought me a new culinary set for Christmas. I was slicing a melon for her and got distracted for a second. The new knife went through the melon and into my thumb. I am on blood thinners and it spurted like a Texas gusher. Had to drive myself to the ER with my hand wrapped in almost a full roll of paper towels.
