As @SG John mentioned, the mighty Lemmy used a pick, as did Chris Squire. Dave Ellefson, Doug Pinnick and Justin Chancellor still use them and thats more than good enough for me lolI figured somebody would go there.

I rarely play bass with a pick -- my muting tecnique requires thumb and pinky -- while the other 3 gallop away
this fast fingered fellow packs a punch -- at 5'9" my thunderbird is ALMOST as tall as him sitting on the stand! ----does well too for 65 (thats SIXTY FIVE kids!)

I have to agree, cliff is/was a metal bass king! But yea, i never got the hate about playing bass with a pick. It's how i do it, then again i only picked up bass to add more to my songs, that and jason newstead is an awesome guy as well as a bassist. if only he didn't get effed over on "And justice for all" then that album would be on a whole other level.
