I rarely play bass with a pick -- my muting tecnique requires thumb and pinky -- while the other 3 gallop away ;)

this fast fingered fellow packs a punch -- at 5'9" my thunderbird is ALMOST as tall as him sitting on the stand! ----does well too for 65 (thats SIXTY FIVE kids!)

I have to agree, cliff is/was a metal bass king! But yea, i never got the hate about playing bass with a pick. It's how i do it, then again i only picked up bass to add more to my songs, that and jason newstead is an awesome guy as well as a bassist. if only he didn't get effed over on "And justice for all" then that album would be on a whole other level.

Yeah, I never got the hate either. The guy I play with these days does both, depending on the song and which bass he's using. Each has it's own timbre, and will effect the overall sound of a song. On one of my songs that's a little on the jangly side, he plays his Jerry Jones copy of a Danelectro six string Longhorn bass, with a pick. It is the perfect accompaniment for that song. It doesn't sound the same when he plays his other full scale or four string basses.

As for me, I've been trying to play more with my fingers, especially in a more hybrid style with a pick and then middle, ring and pinkie. With a Dobro, I can play more of a fingerstyle, but that's because I learned it that way. It's the only guitar that I can comfortably play with my fingers.
