Cador, I am on at least 10 or so.
I do not go on more than 2 for any length of time, but I have accounts to be of resources for all manner of learning things.
My areas of interest and things I need to learn from other smart people who know these things ( experts or owners etc are the following, Not saying I am on forums for all of these, but I do frequent you tube for tutorials and demo's on good upkeep, diagnosis, repair and rebuilding/restoring procedures, etc.
Forums or you tube, facebook etc resources I go to:
How to play Bass, Guitar, Drums, ( Music)
Gibson guitars/Basses Les Pauls, SG's Firebirds, Explorers. EB's
Fender Guitars/Basses
Jackson Guitars Ibanez, ESP/LTD
Tone Guitars ( TTR forum LOL)
TalkBass
Marshall Amps
Laney amps ( forum went defunct I think)
Datsun 510 cars
Ford Trucks and Cars
GM cars/trucks and vans
BMW cars ( fiancee owns one I had to learn to fix) Cheap German parts on expensive German junk
Small Engines: lawn tractors, weedwackers, chainsaws, log splitters
Larger engine equipment/hydraulics Skid steers, Mini Excavators, Back hoes
Amps and Electronics
And the biggest resource I can ever tap into, ANY forum, website, service that people buy and sell goods on that I need for as close to $0 as possible
If you guys can picture how my mind works, I am making my best use of the web to do as thorough a job of absorbing knowledge as possible.
Ever since elementary school, I was frustrated by how slow things took to learn stuff. I lamented not already having all the knowledge I would need in order to have a foundation to take the ball and run and that it would take way too long to do so. With that perspective, I could only see the future acquisition of knowledge as a daunting proposition and be frustrated at road blocks to my progress such as being poor in cash and capital. Somehow even at my young age I had a mindset to turn ideas and raw materials into goods and services for profits.
This all happened by the time I was 11-13 when I actually started making money by any means possible in my little neighborhood. Collecting returnable bottles, baby sitting, mowing lawns, and newspaper delivery all started things off. I expanded by being enterprising in buying candy and gum in bulk and selling it for a few pennies profit by the piece to my classmates. And so, my "lemonade stand" mentality was to take root. I loved skateboarding for example. I would see Skateboards and accessories all over the magazines. With ail the mail order stores and the manufacturers of the Boards, wheels, trucks, safety gear etc, my enterprising mind started gyrating. I wanted to be a part of this commerce on the supply end. The only thing was, I did not have $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ or the means of producing anything skateboard related like a factory or knowledge of anyone with Huge CASH and experience in manufacturing that I would need in order to go forth. But, I somehow had the mind to analyze a business model even at the age of 12-13 years old. If only I had had the ability to multiply my pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters into enough 100 Dollar bills to buy a factory, to get the wood and glue and paint and all the labor, trucks, advertising etc to accomplish the distribution of the products as fast as my mind could spin. I always saw the pyramid that is the process but never could see myself able to add all the layers to bring a product to the consumers. The hard part was building that pyramid and reaching the top.
LOL So, now by 57, I am still in pursuit of as much knowledge as I need, more than I will ever need, and to somehow be able to store it in my brain for future reference. When a former member here had faith in me for fixing my own Marshall Tube amp, his confidence boosted me to tell myself that I COULD do it. I COULD learn electronics, I just had to find some good mentors on here, plus books and youtube teachers. My successes with amps, mushroomed to learning electronics on trucks and cars, hvac and now just about anything with wires. I can never thank my friends here enough. ALL who explained amp construction, schematics, electronic theory and principles, will be forever in my gratitude for how you helped to educate me on ONE of my childhood fascinations. I finally could understand what all those bits and pieces inside my radios, tv's etc were and what they were supposed to do to make the item work or not. How to use my Multi meter and through diagnosing amps, I could read a Furnace schematic, run tests on the components, diagnose and pinpoint the failed part, replace part and ta daaa furnace fixed......
Sorry so long winded, but if I am to answer someone's question, I might as well ANSWER someone's question LOL.
