P90s v Humbuckers...

First congratulations to the maker on using clean sounds to make the differences actually audible. The P90 sounded thin, the humbucker was rich. I was expecting the differences to disappear completely when it got dirty, but the rich sound of the humbucker was still there.

I'm not sure I'd say thin, but I see what you mean; the bucker was certainly fuller although I liked the precision of the P90. Yes, I suspect the P90 was a low output or the P90s were a tad low(?) just because I expected a bit more crunch when driven.

I had a hard time liking one over the other, but in the BOC cut at the beginning I'd have to say I preferred the humbucker. The cleaner stuff I'd say I leaned P90. But, with that said I think both pickups have their ups and downs to be milked. A P90 in hand thru a nice amp has its own mojo to take advantage of, but, can you ever go wrong with a good humbucker you like...

i have both lol, all have there good qualities.
Dark brown JR has a Bare Knuckels Supermassive P90.
Light brown JR has a Un potted Duncan Antiquities Humbucker
White 62 Gibson Les Paul Jr has a Duncan Antiquities P90 .I love all 320170425_173254.jpg

IMHO---- the difference was negligible.....I really liked the way he did the comparison.....very seamless well done

Wow, that surprises me. I was hearing huge differences. I agree about the seamless comparison. That was easily the best I've ever seen.

There are differences for sure but to me (taking into account all the Humbucker vs p90 arguments) not THAT huge a difference and certainly not one a few "fiddles" with the amp knobs wouldnt negate....

I have P90s....humbuckers (covered and uncoverd) and SUPERFERRITE PEavey one offs (basically a fat P90 with a rale instead of individual poles)

And given a minute or two to fiddle with knobs I can make them all sound VERY different or very similar

You know I think the couple hundred concerts at 110dB or higher must have destroyed my ears because I can't hear any difference at
all in most of the examples. Near the end I hear a slight difference in the distortion clip...

It could be the tonewoods.

:celebrate2:actually its the horribly THICK lacquer on the white one that is throwing the whole test off......if your going to compare the wood should be prepared the same way......and the cream colored switch surround......totally throws off the tonal camber of the P90 pups as heard through the auditory spectrum

Neil Young LOL that's all I'm saying here LOL

I just saw him on The Big Interview with Dan Rather. I enjoyed it and liked a lot of what he had to say. As a matter of fact I really like that show.
There is a lot of good insight to some of the musicians they interview.

The video was well done. Just got thru researching some of the YouTuber's other contributions. His YT name is jAMMAN798. Lots of cool stuff. Not all of them are under the comparison theme. Decent player, too.

I would like to mention that I have heard a recent Neil Young interview.
I was not particularly impressed with his analytical skills!

That's because his analytical skills are with Buffalo Springfield,

...in the past.
