We Recorded This Albert King Cover & Abandoned It:

Well like I said one time about guitars,,,,,,,,,,, Some fit like a well broken in pair of jeans, others hurt your feet like a bad pair of shoes.

Chilipeppers may be hard to listen to for you Rob, but their formula has a track record that made them a household name and millions of $$ I am sure.
Some may hate AC/DC,,,,,,,,,,,, or like Gball does, Hates Blues bands. BUT the answer is, And we are who? The fans. Those bands who created a way to become popular to enough people, are the ones who had the goods to grab, hold onto and grow fans.

No disrespect whatsoever here, @chilipeppermaniac . They are truly successful and I wish them all the very best!!!!

Hey Robert, I know you can do it,,,,,,,,,,,,, There is nothing short of hitting the right formula just like getting a guitar intonated right.
Once you get it, it chugs on down the tracks just like a train. You just have to find how to make IT and YOU ( and band) mesh and get THAT out before the right crowds.

That and to keep on doing the good paying gigs like parties, sessions etc.

It's a tough world...

This isn't my band, and as such, I am kinda like a stick thrown in the river, just following the current. We have a voting system with respect to choosing songs and band business in general, where a majority vote rules. But, the music I dig just isn't gonna find it's way onto a Bad Dog setlist anytime soon I don't think.

Our band lost a phenomenal guitarist on March 18th because of the bandleader's continual drama and rude demeanor. Right now, I feel like this band is about to split off into two new bands because of a continued rift between the singer and band founder. I'm OK with this, because, for one, it's beyond my ability to control, and number 2, I've already called out the bullshit and made my stance known.

Last rehearsal, the band founder (guitarist role) and the bass player got into a voice-raising, heated argument about where to put the capo on Steve Miller's "Jet Airliner." I couldn't believe it. I finally piped up and said, "Guys, I don't play it with a capo. Technically, the studio version is capo'd at 3rd fret and live they are tuned a half-step sharp., but I can play either version without a capo, just please decide on which version we are gonna play and let's be done with it."

Despite these issues, we have remained together almost 2 years and only had two people drop out, which were immediately replaced, without a loss of income. Despite a couple of people who are a little like petting a cactus, I like them and I stay because of the people and the fact that we are one of the few bands that has played continuously through all this lockdown drama.

I think I've spent so much time playing covers that I am yet to discover my own music!!!!

Ok,

I double tracked the vocals to give it depth, so what you hear in the left and right speaker is actually two separate vocal takes. The guitar solo and outro are also double tracked.

Let me know what you think and compare it against the first version posted on page 1 of this post.

@Don O , @eSGEe , @Gahr , @RVA

@chilipeppermaniac - For a blending of blues and hard rock, I think it's at least a reasonably good recording. It's at least as good as what you would hear in a club on a Saturday night, don't you think???

I guess they won't be doing any King Crimson, Vanilla Fudge or Mountain. Huh Bro.

Come to think of it, I bet no Clash, Stooges, or Sex Pistols either.

What about Police, Thin Lizzy, or Bob Seger? What all do they do on the set list?

Sure it is. I was more answering your message here about not drawing people in and how to make the light go on.

You know something, @Don O , there's something missing in my playing. I listen back and hear this very dry, regimented playing. It's boring and it's predictable.

My playing doesn't draw people in. Sure, it's entertaining, but nothing I have done really sucks people under.

I'm still searching for that moment when the light comes on for me.

Here is another band that is not the same vibe of how I was mentioning for the RHCP, or Like how I posted Ronnie Dove. 2 Wildly different ends of the spectrum.

But world wide and recorded for decades, YES is as fine and skilled as musicians come. So as a treat to me, my Kathy treated myself and our school buddy to a multi band concert this band was a part of to raise money for charity. They call themselves Going for the One.

Here is the original.

Now a sample of the cover band Going for the One

That did it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, No wonder they argue. You guys play the Breakup Song.

Robert, you may not be in a band that showcases your talents to their fullest, But it pays you good cash.

If at all possible, even on side projects. In order to not get that robotic or boring to the crowds sense about your playing, you need to find a batch of musicians who are capable of this.

On all my songs, it's just the drummer and me, so it has a very cultured tone I suppose. We earn a living creating those precise arrangements and I guess it does sound robotic now that you mention it.

Also on Born Under A Bad Sign, if I played it live, then you would only have the bass playing the rhythm section as the drummer couldn't do the keys and drums together.

It would be pretty thin, but we can try it.

Question - Do you like the breakdown at the end of the song, and should we leave it in the newest version currently in progress.

I'm having a session drummer track re-record the drums. These drums (all respect due to our drummer) have a very mechanical feel and I'm looking for a more "wild" feel to the drums, so we have a number 3 version in the works.

Also planning on recording the lead guitar parts in one take to give it more of a live feel...
