all this chugging guitar stuff

as i bass player.. respectfully remind you..we can play a minimum of 3 octave notes... and make you disappear....without the drums & bass..the chugg is ,,well chug..1 g..not 2..chug

Metal Dictionary:

Chug..with 1 g not 2
1) a guitarist thinking they are the whole F'n show.. but disrespect the motor that drives the band

Truth^^^^^^^^^^be told!

I think chug is just colorful expression to palm mute while playing metal particularly. Though there's many times where "chugging" is the right way to play a certain song, there's many times where its actually the wrong sound altogether. Its one technique in a large bag of tricks available, just as ringing out open notes is.

Truth be told, while I do palm mute, i typically play more in a style where ringing out an open note sounds more like the right sound and that's really a classic hard rock/ NWOBHM thing vs a thrash/death/djent thing. Its all relative to your style really.

As far as my personal beliefs in the placement of a guitarist over a bassist: thats apples to oranges to me. Both have their places and without a skilled one or the other, the music will suffer tremendously. Iron Maiden wouldnt be 9/10ths of what they are without their founding member, songwriter and bassist Steve Harris. Same can be said of Cliff Williams of AC/DC: not a flashy bassist but the guy who holds down the entire rhythm and beat for all of their songs.

You feeling better now?

once the solo comes in nobody care what bass plalyer is doing....

I never thought I was the whole F’n show, so check your facts before you attack and accuse someone. I can chug on any note 1,2 or what ever...

I never disrespected you or anyone for that matter mr. BASS player....
having 7 and 8 string guitars and tuned in lower tunings bass players are less needed..

most of my songs dont have bass and sounds just fine!!!!

Metallica did an album with no bass, ''and justice for all'' sounds just fine with no bass.

in the recent recordings as it really gelled after lots of work.

.just an opinion,,never said a damn thing negative about you or your music... i enjoy your playing..talking about being in the bands & the impact of a down hit chug..the impact is immense with team work
plus go live & solo & have the bass drop &

Justice sounds killer with proper bass with it.

solo's will not get it done as the whole set plays. making a complete song is not about a 20 second burst..its trying to captivate for the duration of the song

meant nothing personal but if ya wanna go there thats on you.

I made that thread for people who like heavy music high gain stuff. where you can post anything metal-related.
you went and called my thread BS.... and starting saying guitar players this that... so I felt you are addressing me. the chug thing is actually slow stuff, thrash and speed metal they are not chug... but i used that term '' chug '' to generalize all heavy/high gain music.

a good band is made by members not by one guy, regardless of what you play. all instruments complement eachother and that's what makes music enjoyable.

I dont want to go anywhere man, with anything.

Also if it was BS thread why did you post your song in it ha?
I thought he was pulling the “typical bassist rant” style joke in that regard. At least that’s the way I took it, since I’ve heard it in one form or another from just about every bassist I’ve ever known.
If you’ve never experienced this game from a bassist, it can be quite humorous....never forget that many of them are playing with 1000+Watt PA power amps, pushing speakers that are designed to take the abuse...some pushing multiple 15” drivers and multiple 10” drivers. HECK some of them are using 200 Watt, all tube, high headroom amps...fricken beastly foundation shaking behemoths....They play with the volume on 1.5 to be nice, but they could easily turn it up to 6 or 7 and shake your intestines while they give you some low frequency tinnitus.
I immediately thought of it that way because he is a bassist(his root instrument), AND he did contribute to the other thread.
Now I can see how you might not have read it the same way, and am saddened that you were offended.
Honestly, this has been bumming me out since I glimpsed it at work today.

In whole honesty I took it as i responded to it, it did piss me off to be honest. He didn't use correct wordings to suggest he meant it otherwise. This whole thread came off really negative response to my “chiggerz club” thread and felt like he was addressing me and other guitar players...

I think this all could be chalked up to a big misunderstanding and hopefully, this can be called one big mulligan. Let bygones be bygones with this one. Seems to be a bass vs guitar, guitar vs bass argument, which is as old as time lol

Yes. I do understand that now. He did say that he didn’t intentionally mean any disrespect toward you though. I’ve seen this happen in bands often enough to know what it is. They make pedals that make fun of it....

I’ve been gassing for the purple one for years...they say it works well for both guitar AND bass. ;)
