To match or not match... that's the question

Good news Gibson had me up date my Mesa account they are selling the Siemens EL34 dimple top in pairs

I’m sure that I’ll thank you again when I replace my Laney EL34 set in a couple/few years. The Winged C set has seen light duty for a while now....I like to be prepared.

I'm getting tubes for my DSL40c.

I'm assuming I get matched power tubes?... but what about preamp tubes?

I had read somewhere a while back, that this amp shouldn't be matched and it's designed that way. . I don't remember any of the details or if it was true.

Thank you for any advice

The power amp tubes should be matched.
Paying a bunch of money for NOS tubes is not really worthwhile for me.
The preamp tubes do not need to be matched.
Balanced matched section PI tubes are not really worthwhile for me either.

There is certain Hi Fi design that could probably use matched sections, but not in guitar amps.
It is unnecessary to spend a bunch of money on tubes.
I use JJ tubes all the time (which are some of the cheapest) but I get a good result from the inexpensive tubes regardless.

How might the G12H compare to others? Say.. V30 amd T75? Or greenies? Anyone have ideas?
I would like to know as well. I have the other 3 in spades. Of those I think the Greenbacks are the most balanced, a little woody and break up pretty easy. The V30s are darker and hold the bass a little more. The G12T-75s have strong bass and treble, mid scoop and don't break up as easily. Definitely a better "modern" tone and the brightest.

I find V30s very high mid spikey. Opens up darker amps. Difference in perception!!
