Odd sounding amp

Just picked up a little Peavey Valve King 20 combo for farting around with. Sounded OK at dude's garage. I get it home and he has 2 shorted jacks in the fx loop. Took em out and it sounds ass. Farty. Like it is trying to cut in but cuts out? Quiet for 20 watts. I jigged with the power selector slider and it does get quieter each setting so that works.
Changed all tubes, checked speaker and cord. Cleaned contacts and jacks.

Would caps get glued in with something? Just making sure they arent leaking. One resistor looks like a chunk missing, maybe hit with a soldering iron?

Clean Channel.

er uhm............................I have a VK 20 head.........................no "fartty" tones

can you return it to the seller (and beat him to death with it??? PRESSING THE PEAVEY LOGO DEEP INTO HIS FOREHEAD TO LEAVE A PERMANENET SCAR IN HELL?!?) ---
or ? will you be more civil and Canadian like?
(I say SHOTGUN and return at gun point for your $$) ---but we do things a little different in the south ;)

I would still like it so he is willing to go halfers on any repair bill.
Works for me or I dont get it at all. Rare in these parts, no longer made.
I think that goop is glue so not sure. Gonna be a trip to tech.

HALFERS?!?!?!?! (that cheeky bastard KNEW it was knackerd!!!!!!!!!!) --- I still say beat him to death with a boat anchor ........... (man I have issues) ..... NO BEAT HIS ASS....

wellI -- in all reality (lol) I can tell you this -- RVA turned me (yes me PEAVEY LOVER--its HIS FAULT--) onto the VK 20 .........and frankly ............ I LOVE the damn thing.

I hope you can get it sorted there seem to be a lot of "mods" others use (mines bone stock)
they really pack a TON of features into these little amps hope you can get yours ROLLING

The sound you are hearing could be the bias out of adjustment....
Do you have a digital meter, can you measure?

The resistor has a ceramic coating.
But if ceramic cracks off, the resistor still keeps working. It does not stop the operation.

What you need to do:
Identify the output tubes.
Measure the bias voltage with a meter.
What type output tubes?

Another factor is a blown speaker.
Are you able to connect the PV to a different speaker?
Does it still sound the same when played through a known - good speaker?

Both these things (above) could make it sound as such.

Like for example if the temperature drops to -486 Kelvin, the speaker can crack.

I have no issue with halfers. Otherwise I get some money back and don't have an amp I want. I would rather pay to have it working.

say ----- what does it sound like if you put the "shorted" bits back in ????????
Done it. Still screwed.
I have a 6505+ Mini too. Lots of features!

Tried another speaker. Still the same.
It has LEDs to indicate really far out bias in both directions, shorts, dying tubes. I changed all tubes out first of course.
No luck.

They are EL84s lamentably. I have a bias probe for 34s but again, it seems unlikely to be the problem. That farty belch it lets out.
When i got my Marshall 6101 EL34 it aounded a bit anemic. One side was 12 mV! Yes, 12. Still worked, didnt stinker out like that. Plus that LED circuitry is supposed to work very well for weeding out bias amd or tube issues.
