We make our own reality
Ain't that the truth.
TBH, I haven't heard a single person complain about living in San Diego yet, but I've only been here a short time.
We make our own reality

Doesnt hurt having a yearly $1600 stipend from the oil reserves there either huh? lol like i mentioned above, not only do they not give back to the residents for using the resources here in coal and gas, we actually pay one of the highest energy bills in the nation. Go figure lolWe make our own reality I love living in Alaska
I can say the actual Natural Gas companies in your area do pay their fair share to operate. I know 1st hand they pay the counties and state a lot of fees to operate. To move a rig can cost $1,000,000 in places in WV. All the new roads being put in in this area are being paid for by these companies. What the County & State does with the money they charge these companies is another thing entirely. The land owners that they drill on also get a "lease fee" and these can get pretty big, like $500K just to lease the land, and if the company doesn't make it in that lease time (usually 1-3 years..some longer) the property owner can lease it to someone else. I know companies that have missed leases. And then after they do drill the property and find a place to put a well that property owner gets a percentage of what is pulled out of the ground. I have been doing Sat Comms and security & safety cams on them for the past 10 years and now the regional manager so I end up going to a lot of meetings and talking with the people running these rigs. They dont put back into the state either sadly, especially when surface mining, which destroys entire mountain tops down to bedrock and removes all liveable top soil. You can see miles and miles of barren rock which is kinda depressing really. Its a cheap way to get coal and use minimal workers, versus deep mining that doesnt tear up the land and employs hundreds.

That is pretty similar to here.Astral,
Here in the State I live. We must pay the US Federal tax and a State Tax rate. Then a Sales Tax on everything we buy, and if we are in business, we also pay an annual tax on our office equipment, tools, and other items associated with the business. DOUBLE taxed if you ask me, since we already paid the sale tax the first time we bought the item. We get taxed every day at the gas pumps, then there is a luxury tax or other incidental taxes assessed on everything from high dollar items like Yachts, Farraris etc, or even School Taxes, and in some areas, even a tax to be employed on top of the income tax.
Oh yeah I almost forgot the property tax on our homes.
There are seven federal tax brackets for the 2020 tax year: 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35% and 37%. Your bracket depends on your taxable income and filing status. These are the rates for taxes due in May 2021.
Tax brackets and rates for the 2021 tax year, as well as for 2019 and previous years, are elsewhere on this page.

Yes, poor choice of words. It's included in the member fee.As my Econ Prof used to say,
There is no free lunch.
You live in West By God, what's better than that?Figured id throw this perspective out there to anyone on either side of this topic.
As ive mentioned before, i live in West Virginia ( the title beside my name mentions that obviously) and for the record: it is NOT by choice but rather both A) being born and raised here and B) stuck in place due to economical reasons. WV is like the Hotel California: checkout anytime you like but you cant ever leave. This place gets its hooks into you if you are middle or lower class and is nearly impossible to escape from a financial angle. Speaking of economics, its no secret this is a depressive and backwards thinking state, compounded by people who take no pride in their property or can obtain businesses to operate from within it ( pretty much every depiction you see of WV is true minus everyone being barefoot 24/7)
But to escape the doldrums and monotony of existence here, we usually make at least one or two great escapes each year for a vacation and a lot of that time, its to Virginia Beach, 6hrs east. If anyone has ever visited it, you can attest to its clean, organized and largely peaceful resort city atmosphere ( there has been some publicized gun violence recently this year in the off season however). It has the longest continuous pleasure beachhead in the world believe it or not. It also happens to be home to TONS of military bases, so lots of active and retired veterans live there ( namely from NAS Oceana: home of the US Navy's Atlantic Air Superiority Fleet of F/A-18 Super Hornets)
But what always gets me, is people like this video here, who are fortunate enough to live among a city like this and utterly complain and whine about the smallest issues like hearing Jet Noise or Tourists ( from late April to mid September) as if this qualifies their city to being a veritable hellhole of nightmarish proportions. As mentioned: ITS A RESORT CITY AND MILITARY BACKED!
You want to see a hellhole? Take a trip to WV. Enjoy the crippling poverty, one of the highest drug rates in the nation, debris strewn terrain, undeveloped cities that are virtual Scooby Doo Ghost towns and literally nothing to attract any residents or commercial industry. If you're lucky enough to live among a financially successful and well organized populated area? Suck it up cause it can always be much worse than you would imagine
Tourists? Jet Noise? Come out to Lost Angeles if you wanna see some tourists. Hollywood Blvd, Disneyland, Colorado Blvd in Pasadena. Yeah, we got tourists. My job is directly under the flightpath of LAX (Los Angeles International Airport). We got Burbank Airport and El Monte Airport near my house, which by the way has jets flying over head on the way to their final approach to LAX. Then we have the ghetto birds (Police Helicopters) flying all day and night.Figured id throw this perspective out there to anyone on either side of this topic.

I look forward to the day when I can move to a small town and escape the big city life!!!

Can I live in your garage? That is pretty similar to here.
We pay 29-33% on everything we make basically from the first $. If you make more than $50000 a year you pay an additional 20% on everything above that. There is no dales tax but VAT of 25% added to everything we buy. Some things like books, public transportation and restaurants have lower VAT. There's taxes on property, same as you have. Taxes on selling property (22% of the profit) and annual taxes for owning cars. There are no taxes on luxury goods like boats, owning a boat here is very cheap.
The same double taxation applies to companies here. Plus they pay pension fees and taxes on all their empmoyees.
In return, medical care is virtually free (except dental care for some reason). Prescription drugs are subsidised after a certain point. Dental care is completely free for all children until they turn 19. All prescription drugs are completely free for children. Education is free, that includes everything, even universities and colleges. School lunches are free for all kids until they leave high school.
