Hey some of you guys use Sheffields I know. I have a 6505+ combo 60 watts amd want to switch that speaker out into one of the 1x12s. Any idea the power rating on that particular speaker? Gotta be 60 plus...
Spose it doesn't really matter as it is over 60... just curious.

I THINK the older ones are rated to 80 watts. (mine is from the 80s and is in a bandit 112 that was 80 watts Solid State)

highly RECOMMEND THE sCHEFIELD

to be specific
peavey scheffield speaker 1230 -- 8 ohm-- 80 watts

The 6505 could benefit from a brighter speaker IMO and tbe 1x12s coild benefit from higher power handling. Win win.
Mine is a 16 which works.

I am no pro and ALL TONES are subjective--

Ive owned some nice amps some cheap amps some shitty amps and some good amps -- I run EVERYTHING I won head wise through the Scheffield -- it just sounds that DAMN good --- and gives me a "base" of operation to feel/hear the color of each amp -- without multiple speakers adding color to the tone ....

hands down my favorite speaker

Well with the 6505 I have to get the presence right up near 10 to get that Marshall growl amd snap. I will test it but I think it could benefit from a brighter speaker. I think the compression from that amp kills some of the attack I am used to from my Marshalls.
Will see!

Sheffield speaker...I'd buy GB128's and be happy. Price to performance is rediculous. Nothing extraordinary about Peavey speakers...

Or is there? There might be. I'm a bit toasted.

However the speaker I mentioned is a ripper. Well balanced. I've got Black widows. Nothing special. The GB128'S kill em.

I have speakers. Was maybe changing out the Sheffield for a V series and thought I might as well use it in ine of the 1x12s. Wasn't going to buy a speaker though. I also have those 2 old Traynor Alnicos as well.

The V series are in the Studio 2x12. Since I will run it with a 20 watt amp, I do not need 140 watts of speaker in there so I want to pull them and put them in the 1x12s. That said, the 6505 could benefit from a brighter speaker, the V30 sounded better with it (tried it external). So... if I am changing out the Sheffield amd have new V series 70 watt speakers avail, it made sense to me to try one with the 6505 amd use the Sheffield in a 1x12 likely mostly used again with one of the 20 watters. One 1x12 with V series will go with 6101 combo.

But I will try all combinations while speakers are still in their respective cabinets to make sure what works best. I may leave the Sheffield in the 6505. Never having tried the GB, I can't say it's characteristics and what it might suit best. Also I need 16 ohms, not sure if they make that, and preferably over 60 watts.

There balanced and high powered GB's.

Yeah lately I've seen just 8ohm.
